Sound detection in fishes relies on the inner ear and peripheral structures, such as calcareous otoliths, which play a crucial role in perceiving movement, orientation, and balance. Otoliths, in particular, respond to various environmental factors including temperature, salinity, and food availability, making them valuable indicators of ecological conditions. This study applies geometric morphometrics (GMM) to analyze the otolith shape of Diplodus annularis (Linnaeus, 1758) from two distinct populations located in the Gulf of Asinara (Porto Torres, Sardinia) and the northern Adriatic Sea (Le Tegnue). By using GMM techniques, precise and quantifiable differences in otolith morphology were revealed between the two populations, demonstrating significant shape variation. In addition, fluctuating asymmetry (FA), which serves as a marker for developmental stability and environmental stress, was assessed. The results show marked disparities in FA between the populations: samples from Porto Torres exhibited posterior asymmetry, while samples from Le Tegnue showed asymmetry in the anterior region of the otoliths. These findings underscore the sensitivity of GMM in detecting even subtle morphological differences, making it a powerful tool for studying environmental and genetic influences on marine species.

Accurate determination of the parameters of each high purity germanium, HPGe detectors ensure the precision of quantitative results obtained from spectrum analysis. This study presents a comprehensive performance evaluation and long-term quality control assessment of a high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma spectrometry system that has been operational for over 15 years. Key spectrometric measures were recorded, including energy resolution, peak shape ratios, asymmetry, peak-to-Compton ratio, relative efficiency, electronic noise, minimum detectable activity (MDA), and repeatability and reproducibility of the system.

This study investigates the "First Settler Wellness Effect," exploring how cultural geography impacts traditional wellness (physical health, social relationships, and financial stability) and existential wellness (purpose, meaning, and community identity) across the United States. Using data from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which includes responses from over 325,000 individuals across 110 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) from 2009 to 2016, we analyze wellness outcomes through the lens of the American Nations Model. This model categorizes the United States into distinct cultural regions shaped by early settlement patterns, emphasizing the enduring influence of regional norms and ideologies.

This study aimed to investigate the biomechanical impact of root canal anatomical variations and restoration techniques on endodontically treated mandibular second molars using finite element analysis. Five root morphologies were modelled: separated-rooted (S), fused-rooted with V-shaped (F-V), U-shaped (F-U) or Ω-shaped (F-Ω) radicular grooves and single-canal fused-rooted (F-O). Micro-CT scans were performed before and after endodontic instrumentation to generate the finite element models: intact teeth, post-and-core crowns with 2- to 3-mm ferrules and endocrowns with 3- to 4-mm pulp chamber extensions.
