Article Abstract

It was a rare case of a 52-year-old female with a slender PDA combined with PFO related to a transient ischemic attack that did not improve with aspirin and/or clopidogrel treatment. We closed the PDA using the ADO-II occluder and closed the PFO with the occluder, resulting in symptom resolution.

Background: Crowe type IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) presents unique challenges in total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study compares the clinical outcomes and efficiency of the direct anterior approach (DAA) in the lateral decubitus position combined with proximal femoral osteotomy (PFO) versus the postero-lateral approach (PLA).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 73 hips from 64 patients who had Crowe type IV DDH was conducted.

Department of Medical Oncology, Sorbonne Université, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Institut Universitaire de Cancérologie, CLIP2 Galilée, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris, France.

Background: Vinorelbine is commonly used to treat metastatic breast cancer (mBC), while thiotepa is known for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Methods: Our retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of vinorelbine with or without thiotepa in patients with HER2-negative mBC. We used propensity score inverse probability of treatment weighting to ensure comparability between groups.

Background: While transcatheter closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) is usually technically feasible, certain anatomical subtypes such as long-tunnel PFOs can present considerable challenges. Due to the difficulty in advancing the guidewire through the elongated and tortuous tunnel, interventional cardiologists often have to resort to transseptal puncture. However, transseptal puncture is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative residual shunts and an increased risk of puncture-related complications.

Article Synopsis
  • A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a common heart condition found in about 25% of adults, and can lead to paradoxical embolism, which causes about 5% of all strokes, especially in younger individuals.
  • Approximately 50% of younger patients (under 60) with undetermined stroke causes have a PFO, indicating a higher risk compared to the general population.
  • The Risk of Paradoxical Embolism (RoPE) score helps assess the likelihood of a PFO causing a stroke, and closure of the PFO has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of recurrent strokes in younger patients with cryptogenic strokes compared to standard medical therapy.
