Background: Predicting future events is a fundamental cognitive ability that often depends on the volatility of the environment. Previous studies on apparent motion reported that when the brain is confronted with low levels of predictability, activity in low-level sensory areas is enhanced, including the primary visual cortex, while others suggest that the enhanced activity in this area is independent of the predictability level. Consequentially, it remains unclear how temporal predictability modulates brain responses in continuous, thus more ecologically valid, motion paradigms.

Starting long before modern generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools became available, technological advances in constructing artificial agents spawned investigations into the extent to which interactions with such non-human counterparts bear resemblance to human-human-interactions. Although artificial agents are typically not ascribed a mind of their own in the same sense as humans, several researchers concluded that social presence with or social influence from artificial agents can resemble that seen in interactions with humans in important ways. Here we critically review claims about a comparability between human-agent interactions and human-human-interactions, outlining methodological approaches and challenges which predate the AI era but continue to influence work in the field.

The management of trunk wall defects can be a challenge in surgical practice, especially when conventional methods such as primary wound closure or skin grafts are insufficient due to the size and depth of the defect, its location, location, or lack of adequate skin and soft tissue coverage. In recent years, perforator-based local flaps have emerged as a modern, muscle-sparing alternative to traditional local myocutaneous or free microsurgical flaps. Particularly in the back region, suitable recipient vessels for free flaps are often unavailable due to vascular anatomy.
