Butyl acetate, a valuable flavor ester, is conventionally synthesized through acid-catalyzed reactions, which suffer from environmental concerns and inefficiencies. This study explores a greener alternative using liquid lipase Novozym 400238 for its enzymatic synthesis. The central composite design (CCD) within response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to assess the reaction parameters, including temperature, substrate molar ratio, enzyme concentration, and hexane content, along with their effects on the conversion rate.

A group of renewable, unsaturated resins from itaconic acid, 1,8-octanediol, and succinic anhydride were synthesized in a non-solvent and non-catalyst melt polycondensation reaction. The study addresses the need for sustainable polymeric materials suitable for additive manufacturing by investigating the influence of synthesis parameters-namely itaconic acid content, reaction time, and temperature-on the properties of poly(octamethylene itaconate--succinate) (POItcSc). The Box-Behnken mathematical planning method was applied to optimize the reaction conditions.

Understanding the long-term relationship between economic and ecological activities is crucial for sustainability research, yet quantitative evidence of its evolution remains limited. This study applies high-throughput culturomics analysis to newspaper corpora, analysing ecological and economic words from newspapers spanning more than two centuries in the United Kingdom (an early industrializer) and over a century in China (a latecomer). We quantify the occurrence, diversity, and relative dynamics of ecological and economic words since industrialization, revealing shifts in subcategory composition and relative dominance.

Isoquinoline derivatives, a prominent class of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, serve a pivotal role in medicinal chemistry due to their broad spectrum of bioactivities. While traditional synthetic routes for these scaffolds are well-established, conventional methods often rely on transition-metal catalysts, harsh conditions, expensive reagents, and toxic solvents, raising environmental and economic concerns. In response to the pressing demand for sustainable practices, this review underscores the integration of green chemistry principles into modern synthetic design, offering environmentally acceptable methods for accessing isoquinoline frameworks.
