Introduction: Despite high coverage of routine childhood vaccines, uptake of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the Pacific Island nation of Tonga has been slow. Culturally appropriate communication resources on the importance, safety, and effectiveness of the HPV vaccine are critical to support acceptance and uptake. To develop these resources, it is important to understand what people want to know.

Schistosomes are parasitic flatworms that infect more than 200 million people globally. However, there is a shortage of molecular tools that enable the discovery of potential drug targets within schistosomes. Thus, praziquantel has remained the frontline treatment for schistosomiasis despite known liabilities.

This study aims to determine the prevalence and identify associated risk factors of accommodative and non-strabismus binocular vision dysfunctions among clinical adults aged 30 to 44 years in Western China. Consecutive eligible outpatients who visited the optometry clinic at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were recruited. Comprehensive assessments of accommodative and binocular vision were conducted, including subjective and objective refractive status examination, Worth 4 dot test, distant and near horizontal eye position (Von Graefe method), positive fusional vergence (distance and near), negative fusional vergence (distance and near), near point of convergence (NPC), accommodative response (BCC, binocular cross-cylinder test), negative relative accommodation (NRA), positive relative accommodation, monocular accommodation amplitude (MAA; negative lenses), monocular accommodative facility (MAF; ±2.

We previously proposed a Vertical Attention Bias (VAB) that directs attention toward object tops and scene bottoms and robustly confirmed this effect in both adults and 4- to 7-year-old children. Our past findings are consistent with progressive ecological theory, and support that our perceptual biases are coupled to informative environmental regularities. This leads observers to generally favor a downward gaze to facilitate attending more to functionally and behaviorally relevant locations.

Tryptophan is the most efficient fluorophore of the naturally occurring amino acids and is widely used as a fluorescence probe of protein structure and function. As a result of its importance, there have been numerous studies of the ultrafast photochemical dynamics of tryptophan. Nonetheless, these studies have not identified the pathway to the triplet state, which competes with fluorescence emission.
