Recent studies have highlighted the complexity of platelet biology, revealing their diverse roles beyond hemostasis. Pathological platelet activation is now recognized as a key contributor to thrombosis and inflammation that are both central to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Emerging research emphasizes the significant impact of demographic factors - such as age, sex, race, and ethnicity - on CVD risk and responses to antiplatelet therapies. These population-based differences, shaped by genetic and non-genetic factors, highlight the need for reevaluation of antiplatelet strategies. We address current knowledge and emphasize the pressing need for further research into platelet biology and cardiovascular outcomes across diverse populations. In this review we advocate for tailored therapeutic approaches in CVD based on the recent demographic-focused findings.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) has become a leading technique in hair transplantation, yet optimal management of the donor area remains a clinical challenge. This systematic review analyzes intraoperative and postoperative interventions applied to the donor area in FUE hair transplantation, with a focus on both clinical outcomes and the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in tissue repair, inflammatory response, and regenerative processes. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed and EMBASE (January 2000-June 2025), identifying clinical studies that evaluated donor area treatments and reported outcomes related to healing, inflammation, infection, and patient satisfaction.

The platelet protease-activated receptor 4 (PAR4) threonine 120 (Thr120) allele is an activating allele associated with reduced aspirin response in vitro. Aspirin is recommended in high-risk pregnancies to prevent preeclampsia and preterm birth. We evaluated the impact of PAR4 genotype on aspirin response in pregnancy, as measured by platelet function assay 100 (PFA-100) epinephrine closure time, and perinatal outcomes.

The integrin family of extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion receptors plays a central role in platelet function, including adhesion and aggregation. In resting platelets, integrins exist in a low-affinity state for their ligands, and are activated upon ligand binding to the extracellular domain or binding of cytoplasmic proteins such as talin to the intracellular β-tail. Talin function is regulated through autoinhibition, which reduces its integrin-activating function.

Background: The VWF Phe2561Tyr variant has been previously shown to exhibit gain-of-function like activity and increase the risk of repeated MI in patients below 55 years of age. It was hypothesised that altered stem dynamics enhanced the responsiveness of the molecule to shear stress. In this study we investigated the evolutionary significance of the amino acid at position 2561 and functional impacts of variants at this site.
