We report herein that three facile rearrangements of epoxy ketones can be employed for the efficient and practical synthesis of cephalotaxine, the parent member of the family of alkaloids. The Meinwald rearrangement of epoxy ketone (90%) was used for the preparation of the dense functional groups in the cyclopentane ring of cephalotaxine. A novel acid-catalyzed umpolung S2' rearrangement and the Wharton transposition reaction of epoxy ketones were also developed to synthesize the Mori intermediate via the key azaspiro allylic alcohols in a stereodivergent manner.

Global warming causes heat stress in livestock, impairing their health, welfare, and productivity. In bovines, chronic stress elevates cortisol levels; however, this response often goes undetected due to the lack of practical biomatrices for accurate assessment. Common biomatrices such as blood require repeated sampling that may affect measurement accuracy.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution in rice agroecosystems has become a pressing worldwide environmental challenge. Straw return leads to Cd re-entering the soil, yet the impact of straw removal (SR) on Cd mobility and bioavailability within this system remains unclear. We implemented a four-season field study to evaluate how different SR intensities (NSR: no rice straw was removed; HSR: half of the rice straw was removed; TSR: all the rice straw was removed) influence Cd availability in this system.

While PGPB have historically been applied in agriculture, their formal recognition in the last century has driven intensive research into their role as sustainable tools for improving crop yield and stress tolerance. As they are primarily sourced from wild or native environments, the widespread enthusiasm has led to heightened expectations surrounding their potential, often based on the assumption that biological solutions are inherently safer and more effective than synthetic inputs. However, despite their popularity, increasing reports of inconsistent or limited performance under real-world, field conditions have raised critical questions about their credibility as biofertilizers and biocontrol agents.

Routine growth monitoring includes plotting children on World Health Organization or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention charts that have primarily been developed on typical, healthy populations. However, it is advisable to plot children with known genetic conditions on specialized growth curves (SGCs) when they are available. In this review, we highlight the most common genetic conditions for which SGCs are available, clinical reasons to use SGCs based on specific rare diseases, and how these SGCs can be found.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a new Schiff base ligand (HL), derived from 2-picolylamine and 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde. Its reaction with Ni(NO)·6HO and Ln(NO)·HO (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy) in the presence of triethylamine affords a carbonato-bridged family of heterobimetallic NiLn complexes: [NiLn(L)(L')(μ-CO)(NO)]·MeOH·HO (). During the complexation reaction, ligand HL undergoes an oxidation, followed by C-C coupling to generate a secondary ligand (HL').
