This report presents a novel anatomical variant of the second dorsal metacarpal artery (SDMA). In this unique case, the SDMA abnormally penetrates the second dorsal interosseous muscle (SDIM), dividing into two major branches. A deep dorsal branch of the SDMA (dbSDMA) is located within the SDIM and extends to the distal end of the metacarpal. The other branch forms a perforating branch called the P-SDMA, which anastomoses with the palmar metacarpal artery branch (PMAb) and the deep palmar arch branch (DPAcb) in the deep palmar area. The discovery of this SDMA variant is significant for procedures involving complex hand surgeries such as DMA flaps. Understanding this anatomical variation is crucial for accurate surgical planning and can help avoid potential complications during surgery. To elucidate these unique variations, we employ three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques, demonstrating the potential of these technologies to advance the visualization of anatomical structures and enhance medical education. 3D imaging also facilitates augmented reality applications and 3D printing. Our findings underscore the possible applications of 3D imaging in medical practice and education, potentially transforming anatomy education and surgical planning.

Reconstructing multi-tissue defects in the finger remains a significant challenge in hand surgery. We present the case of a 37-year-old man with segmental loss of bone, skin and extensor apparatus on the dorsal aspect of the index finger. A single stage reconstruction was successfully performed using a pedicled chimeric flap based on the second dorsal metacarpal artery combining skin paddle, second metacarpal base bone and the extensor indicis proprius.

Objective: To investigate the site specificity and differences of the Hegu (LI4) located on the midpoint of the second metacarpal and the point where the bases of the first and second metacarpal bones on the dorsum was historically used as Hegu (LI4) in Japan, through morphological, biomechanical, and histological analyses.
Methods: We defined distally located Hegu (LI4) as Hegu (LI4)-D and proximally located Hegu (LI4) as Hegu (LI4)-P. The distance from the skin surface to the blood vessels as well as the biomechanical properties of the two Hegu (LI4) samples were measured using an ultrasound device and MyotonPRO (MyotonAS, Tallinn, Estonia), respectively, in 20 healthy adult volunteers.

Objective: To explore the method and effectiveness of index finger proximal dorsal island flap supplied by the nutrient vessels of superficial branch of radial nerve for treatment of thumb skin and soft tissue defect.
Methods: Between August 2019 and December 2024, 12 patients with thumb skin and soft tissue defects caused by trauma accompanied by variation of the first dorsal metacarpal artery were treated. There were 8 males and 4 females, aged 19-55 years, with an average age of 32 years.

This study aimed to examine the efficacy of Doppler and B-mode sonography in evaluating the impact of maternal temperament on hemodynamic alterations in both the fetus and uterus during ovine gestation in addition to alteration of the angiogenic protein expression and fetal biometry. Twenty Ossimi ewes were divided into two groups, more reactive (MR: 12 sheep) and less reactive (LR: 8 sheep). Several endpoints were assessed every 2 weeks (wk) from breeding to wk 20 of pregnancy.
