Nematic Liquid Crystals (LCs), noted for their simple molecular alignment and broad use in optoelectronics, remain unmodified for over a century. However, in 2017, a unique polar phase, the ferroelectric nematic (N), is confirmed. Subsequently, in 2024, the revolutionary spontaneous mirror symmetry breaking of ferroelectric twist-bend nematic chiral structures (N phase) is demonstrated.

Background: Transportation insecurity is a known barrier to accessing eye care and is associated with poorer visual outcomes for patients. However, its mention is seldom captured in structured data fields in electronic health records, limiting efforts to identify and support affected patients. Free-text clinical documentation may more efficiently capture information on transportation-related challenges than structured data.

Reconstructing time-domain data from discontinuous Percept PC and RC output using external data acquisition and linear filtering.

J Neurosci Methods

September 2025

Center for Neurological Restoration, Neurological Institute, Cleveland Clinic, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44195, United States of America.

Background: The Medtronic Percept PC and RC are deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems with recording capability. However, when the stimulation frequency is changed, the recordings were segmented, introducing interruptions that shift each segment in the time domain.

New Method: Ex-vivo, stimulation frequency was changed while local field potential was being recorded in both leads.

Background And Objectives: Minimal exposure to neurosurgery in standard medical school curricula alongside a growing need for neurosurgical care necessitate early exposure programs that promote medical student retention in neurosurgery. Here, we evaluate preclinical students' perceptions on a one-day, resident-designed introductory neurosurgical course.

Methods: Course curriculum involved hands-on and discussion-based elements split into three stations: (1) suturing/general information; (2) introduction to drilling/LPs/EVDs; and (3) case/clinical skills review.

Purpose: The recent advancements of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized the extraction of real-world evidence from unstructured electronic health records (EHRs) in oncology. This study aims to enhance RAG's effectiveness by implementing a retriever encoder specifically designed for oncology EHRs, with the goal of improving the precision and relevance of retrieved clinical notes for oncology-related queries.

Methods: Our model was pretrained with more than six million oncology notes from 209,135 patients at City of Hope.
