A common eligibility criterion in respiratory clinical trials is a per cent-predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 second (ppFEV) between 40% and 90%, using the ethnicity-dependent Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI)-2012 spirometry reference equations. International societies now endorse the newer 'race-neutral' GLI-Global equations. We quantify the impact on trial eligibility of switching from GLI-2012 to GLI-Global for the UK Cystic Fibrosis Registry (n=8182).

Background: The American Thoracic Society recently recommended that race- and ethnicity-specific predicted equations for spirometry be replaced with race-neutral equations. This change could have implications for asthma management.
Objective: Our aim was to examine the effect of race-specific versus race-neutral spirometry reference equations on the resultant guideline-directed asthma therapy in a study population with a high proportion of Black children.

Formation of skin epithelial appendages like hair follicles requires hedgehog (Hh) signal reception, its conduction through the primary cilium and activation of Gli transcription factors. How Hh signalling induces cell-type-specific responses through Gli transcription factors in hair follicle stem cells and their cilia-dependence remains unclear. Here, we use conditional mouse mutants to genetically dissect the roles of Gli2 and Gli3 transcription factors and cilia in the skin epithelium.

Previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations reported brain alterations in anorexia nervosa restricting type (AN-R); however, the number of existing structural neuroimaging studies in the developmental age is limited. Here, we analyzed the volumetric brain differences between adolescent patients with AN-R and control peers, and possible correlations between brain volumes and clinical features. The sample comprised 47 adolescent females with AN-R (mean age: 15.

It is highly challenging to precisely compare the impacts of anthropogenic pollutants on the photooxidation of isomeric volatile organic compounds with respect to molecular compositions and particle number/mass concentrations of secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). In this study, we conducted a series of well-defined indoor chamber experiments to compare the effects of NO (NO and NO) on the photooxidation of isomeric monoterpenes of β-pinene and limonene. For the photooxidation of β-pinene with NO, the increase of the initial concentrations of NO ([NO]) shows a monotonous suppression of the particle mass concentration, whereas the increase of [NO] shows a monotonous enhancement of the particle mass concentration.
