Background: This study aimed to investigate the gender-specific associations of skeletal muscle mass and fat mass with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and NAFLD-related liver fibrosis in two population-based studies.
Methods: Analyses were based on data from the MEGA (n = 238) and the MEIA study (n = 594) conducted between 2018 and 2023 in Augsburg, Germany. Bioelectrical impedance analysis was used to evaluate relative skeletal muscle mass (rSM) and SM index (SMI) as well as relative fat mass (rFM) and FM index (FMI); furthermore, the fat-to-muscle ratio was built.

This study explores how human antigen R (HuR) stabilizes fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) mRNA, inhibiting Kupffer cell (KC) activation to reduce inflammation and fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). An animal model of NAFLD was established in mice by administering a high-fat diet (HFD). In vitro study utilized a lipopolysaccharide-induced immortalized mouse KC model.

Introduction: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) encompasses a spectrum of conditions from simple steatosis to advanced fibrosis that may represent the cradle for hepatocellular carcinoma. Thus, an accurate assessment of fibrosis is critical for patient management. Noninvasive tools, including serum biomarkers and imaging techniques, have emerged as practical alternatives to liver biopsy, which presents limitations for invasiveness, cost, and sampling variability.

The etiology of alcoholic fatty liver (AFL) is complex, representing the early reversible stage of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). Alleviating oxidative stress, reducing inflammation, and preventing the development of liver fibrosis are considered the most effective strategies for treating AFL. Consequently, we selected isoliquiritigenin (ISL), a flavonoid compound recognized for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer pharmacological properties.
