Although enrofloxacin (ENR) is a widely used broad-spectrum antibiotic in veterinary medicine, its residues in animals can pose a risk to human health. Thus, we developed a new method for detecting ENR based on aptamers and AuNPs. In the absence of ENR, the aptamers attached to the surface of the AuNPs electrostatic interactions to protect the AuNPs from NaCl, and the solution remained red. Conversely, the aptamer bonded with ENR, leading the aptamer to detach from the AuNP surface, and the color of the solution changed from red to blue. Based on this principle, ENR can be qualitatively detected by the naked eye and quantitatively detected by measuring the absorbance ratio at 650 nm and 530 nm. The experimental results showed a good linear relationship within the ENR concentration range of 0-400 nM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.72 nM, which is satisfactory for detection in food safety. Additionally, this method has also been successfully applied to the detection of ENR in tap water, river water, milk, serum and urine, with good recovery rates and RSD values of less than 7%, indicating its great potential for ENR detection in environmental water samples. More importantly, the combination of this method with a smartphone platform provided great convenience for on-site and visual detection of ENR, offering promising applicability prospects.

With growing public attention to environmental issues and sustainable development, biodegradable bio-based plastics have attracted widespread interest. This study reveals the chemical-physical synergistic regulation mechanism of biodegradable PLA/PBAT blends through the synergistic modification of epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) and epoxy chain extender (ADR). Interfacial interaction analysis shows that PBAT tends to encapsulate ENR to form aggregates.

The development of non-toxic, cost-effective and high fluorescent sensing materials has earned significant interest in the last decade. In this work, a simple synthesis technique of mesoporous hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) suitable for the ultrasensitive detection of a commonly used antibiotic, enrofloxacin (ENR), has been reported. The fluorescence of the HOF is completely quenched after the formation of a HOF-Cu complex as a turn off sensor which undergoes a turn-on mechanism in the presence of ENR.

Enrofloxacin (ENR), a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is widely used in both human and veterinary medicine. However, residual ENR in food and water can pose significant health risks. In this study, a novel bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67@ZIF-8) a type of metal-organic framework (MOF), was synthesized at room temperature, and employed as an effective sorbent in a dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (Dμ-SPE) procedure for the rapid and sensitive detection of ENR.

Environmental transport pathways of antibiotics resemble those of surfactants, and the two often co-exist in aqueous environments, represent a significant ecological risk. Although the individual toxicities of these chemicals are well-documented, their combined effects and the corresponding mixture predicted no-effect concentrations (PNECs) have not been adequately investigated. This study examined the combined toxicity of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (levofloxacin (LEV) and enrofloxacin (ENR)) and nonionic surfactant (octylphenol ethoxylate (TritonX-100)) through acute toxicity tests on Daphnia magna, a widely used model organism for freshwater toxicity assessment due to its high sensitivity to pollutants and ecological relevance.

This study investigated the development of biocomposites for use as packaging and film in everyday applications. The utilization of rice flour (RF) as a cheap natural filler in the production of polybutylene succinate (PBS) biocomposites has been shown to reduce environmental issues caused by non-biodegradable plastic waste. The effect of rice flour content on the morphology and properties of PBS and RF biocomposites was comprehensively evaluated.
