Article Abstract

Due to the unique photosensitivity of silver compounds, they exhibit good photocatalytic activity as photocatalysts in the degradation of water pollutants. However, silver compounds have poor cycling stability and are prone to decomposition and reaction under light to form metallic silver, which greatly limits their practical application. Herein, a (2-(2-(diphenylphosphaneyl)ethyl)-9-methyl-1.10-phenanthroline (PSNNP)) pincer ligand was designed for stabilizing the central metal. The in situ-formed PSNNP ligand could be readily generated in one pot with the participation of silver halides. The reaction of silver halides with dppeda (,,','-tetra(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)ethylene diamine) in the presence of dmp (2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) in acetonitrile afforded complexes AgX (PSNNP) (complexes , ) (X = Cl, Br). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the tridentate coordination of the pincer ligand provides strong binding with metal centers and leads to high stability of the pincer metal unit. The removal rate of rhodamine B (RhB) by complexes and can reach up to 100%, demonstrating an excellent photocatalytic degradation performance for organic dyes. The important effect of PSNNP ligands on photocatalytic properties after coordination with central metals was studied through experiments and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) calculations. The photocatalytic reaction mechanism of complexes and was also studied. This result provides an effective pathway for the first synthesis of PSNNP and interesting insights into photocatalytic degradation chemistry.

Noble Metal Coating on Perovskite Microcrystals for Robust and Plasmonic Lasing Applications.

Lead halide perovskites (LHP) are solution-processible semiconductor materials with high optical gain and broad wavelength tunability, making them well-suited for laser applications. Here, we present a solution-based method for the three-dimensional conformal coating of LHP microcrystals with noble metals. A nanoscale metal coating layer was found to significantly enhance both laser performance and environmental stability.

A range of (,)-1,4-diarylbutadienes has been efficiently achieved through a Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling of various 2,4-dienoic acids with diverse (hetero)aryl halides, such as bromides, chlorides, and iodides. This protocol successfully produces the corresponding 1,4-diarylbutadiene cross-coupled products in high yields across a large range of substrates (68 examples), demonstrating compatibility with various sensitive functional groups, including heterocycles. A catalytic amount of silver salt was used as a cocatalyst in this approach, replacing the stoichiometric amounts utilized in earlier reports.

A Dynamic Silver(I) Nanocluster Holds Together a 3 × 3 Self-Assembled Grid.

Metal ions with well-defined coordination geometries can serve as fixed joints within self-assembled architectures, defining the relative orientations of ligands within higher-order superstructures. The exchange of ligands and metal ions between different positions is slow, involving disruption or distortion. Here we report a series of AgXL 3 × 3 metal-organic grid-like structures, where the core AgX nanocluster is in dynamic motion, with Ag ions moving between different binding sites, with concomitant conformational changes of the organic ligands, which continue to occupy well-defined positions nevertheless.

Understanding the mechanisms of cluster growth and precisely tailoring the structure-property relationship at the atomic level is challenging and essentially important in chemistry. In this study, we present a combined experimental and theoretical investigation into the structural stability, optical properties, and growth mechanisms of a series of small silver clusters coordinated with halides and nitrates along with 2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine (dppy) protection ligands. Using single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), we uncovered the structural evolution of these clusters and elucidated the factors contributing to their stability.

Halide perovskite devices exhibit diverse current-voltage hysteresis behaviors, driven by distinct mechanisms that can enhance or hinder performance, making their understanding crucial. Among these, abrupt switching is particularly relevant for memristive operation and reverse-bias breakdown in solar cells. In this work, we identify four distinct hysteresis responses: capacitive, inductive, hysteresis-free, and abrupt switching.
