Mass spectrometry (MS)-based breath analysis has emerged as a promising non-invasive approach for diagnosing and monitoring respiratory diseases through the identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 467 publications (2003-2024) to map global research trends, influential contributors, and thematic hotspots in this field. Results showed a sustained annual growth rate of 11.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality, and early detection is key to improving survival. However, there are no reliable noninvasive tests currently available for CRC diagnosis. Here, through a combination of transcriptomics, breath profiling, and clinical analysis on carcinoma tissues and exhaled metabolites, significant dysregulation of short-chain fatty acid and aldehyde metabolism was identified during colorectal tumorigenesis.

Background: Respiratory disorders, , continue to pose a major global health burden. Their complexity and heterogeneity challenge accurate diagnosis, effective monitoring, and therapeutic decision-making. Exhaled breath condensate (EBC) provides a reliable, non-invasive means of sampling the molecular environment of the airways.

Background: Severe asthma is a chronic respiratory disease posing challenges for clinicians and patients, increasing health-care costs and patients' poor quality of life. Advances in precision medicine have introduced novel approaches to managing severe asthma, including breathomics, a promising field using exhaled breath analysis to identify disease biomarkers. Among these techniques, exhaled breath condensate (EBC) analysis has emerged as a potential noninvasive tool for monitoring airway inflammation and disease progression.

Introduction: Childhood is a critical period for the development of executive functioning skills, including selective attention and inhibitory control, which are essential for cognitive development. Optimal brain development during this time requires appropriate levels of macronutrient intake. Metabolomics can offer valuable insights into which metabolites cognitive functioning and the underlying gut-brain interactions.
