Article Abstract

Bovine milk and colostrum play pivotal roles in the nutritional support of both human and bovine infants. Colostrum, the initial milk secretion, is crucial for neonatal growth, providing essential nutrients, growth factors, immunity, and defense mechanisms through a diverse array of bioactive compounds, including bioactive proteins and peptides. Peptidomics, leveraging the potential health benefits of peptides derived from food and body fluids, has become prominent in contemporary research. Endogenous peptides (EPs) have gained notable scientific and commercial interest due to their potential biofunctional significance in areas such as immune health, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, and antioxidative studies. In this investigation, we aimed to extract and analyze low molecular weight EPs from colostrum using four distinct peptide extraction methods, previously employed for EPs extraction from other bodily fluids. The efficiency of these methods was systematically compared and analysed to identify the most effective extraction technique for maximizing the identification of low molecular weight EPs from colostrum. This study represents a pioneering effort as no prior research has systematically compared different extraction methods for low molecular weight EPs from colostrum. Given the unique physical and chemical composition of colostrum compared to milk and other body fluids, a comprehensive analysis of EPs extraction methods was deemed essential. In the present study, we successfully extracted over 3200 EPs from colostrum using trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and a molecular weight cut off (MWCO) extraction method. The findings of this study revealed the extraction of EPs from colostrum, demonstrating potential inherent bioactivities as predicted by tools.

Associations between element mixtures and biomarkers of pathophysiologic pathways related to autism spectrum disorder.

J Trace Elem Med Biol

September 2025

Department of Neurology, Children's Hospital of Fudan University, National Children's Medical Center, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Objective: We previously documented that exposure to a spectrum of elements is associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, there is a lack of mechanistic understanding as to how elemental mixtures contribute to the ASD development.

Materials And Methods: Serum and urinary concentrations of 26 elements and six biomarkers of ASD-relevant pathophysiologic pathways including serum HIPK 2, serum p53 protein, urine malondialdehyde (MDA), urine 8-OHdG, serum melatonin, and urine carnitine, were measured in 21 ASD cases and 21 age-matched healthy controls of children aged 6-12 years.

Frequent emergence of respiratory viruses with pandemic potential, like SARS-CoV-2 or influenza, underscores the need for broad-spectrum prophylaxis. Existing vaccines show reduced efficacy against newly emerged variants, and the ongoing risk of new outbreaks highlights the importance of alternative strategies to prevent infection and viral transmission. As respiratory viruses primarily enter through the nose, formulations targeting the nasal epithelium are attractive candidates to neutralize pathogens and thus prevent or minimize infection.

The OsbZIP35-COR1-OsTCP19 module modulates cell proliferation to regulate grain length and weight in rice.

Grain size substantially influences rice quality and yield. In this study, we identified (), a quantitative trait locus encoding an F-box protein that enhances grain length by promoting cell proliferation. The transcription factor OsbZIP35 represses expression, while COR1 interacts with OsTCP19, leading to its degradation.

Background: The brain-gut-microbiome (BGM) axis is a communication network through which the brain and gastrointestinal microbiota interact via neural, hormonal, immune, and gene expression mechanisms. Gut microbiota dysbiosis is thought to contribute to neurocognitive disorders, including perioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND), and to various metabolic abnormalities. Recently, we reported that sevoflurane induces neurocognitive deficits in exposed rats as well as their future offspring, with male offspring being particularly affected (intergenerational PND).

This study aimed to synthesize and evaluate the anticancer activity of novel chalcone derivative against colon cancer by in vitro cytotoxicity against HCT-116 (Research Resource Identifiers:CVCL_D4JB) cell line and in vivo using EAC (Research Resource Identifiers: CVCL_1306) and DLA (Research Resource Identifiers: CVCL_VR37) cells inoculated Swiss albino mice. The present study aimed to synthesize the new chalcone derivatives and conduct its anti-colon cancer activity both in vitro and in vivo. The designed compounds were subjected to in silico studies like binding pocket analysis, molecular docking, and ADME studies.
