Article Abstract

Background: Choroid plexus (ChP) enlargement is an emerging radiological biomarker in multiple sclerosis (MS).

Objectives: This study aims to assess ChP volume in a large cohort of patients with radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) versus healthy controls (HC) and explore its relationship with other brain volumes, disease activity, and biological markers.

Methods: RIS individuals were included retrospectively and compared with HC. ChPs were automatically segmented using an in-house automated algorithm and manually corrected.

Results: A total of 124 patients fulfilled the 2023 RIS criteria, and 55 HCs were included. We confirmed that ChPs are enlarged in RIS versus HC (mean (±SD) normalized ChP volume: 17.24 (±4.95) and 11.61 (±3.58), respectively, < 0.001). Larger ChPs were associated with more periventricular lesions (ρ = 0.26; = 0.27; = 0.005 for the correlation with lesion volume, and ρ = 0.2; = 0.21; = 0.002 for the correlation with lesion number) and lower thalamic volume (ρ = -0.38; = 0.44; < 0.001), but not with lesions in other brain regions. Conversely, ChP volume did not correlate with biological markers. No significant difference in ChP volume was observed between subjects who presented or did not have a clinical event or between those with or without imaging disease activity.

Conclusions: This study provides evidence that ChP volume is higher in RIS and is associated with measures reflecting periventricular pathology but does not correlate with biological, radiological, or clinical markers of disease activity.

Objectives: To characterize brain structures and plasma Alzheimer's-related biomarkers associated with enlarged choroid plexus (ChP) among rural older adults in China.

Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 1115 older adults (age ≥ 60 years) derived from the Multimodal Interventions to delay Dementia and disability in rural China, who underwent structural brain MRI scans (3.0 T) in 2018-2020; of these, plasma biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and neurodegeneration, i.

Rationale And Objectives: Glymphatic system (GS), known to clear out waste products rand metabolites from the central nervous system, has been implicated in many neurodegenerative diseases. However, due to the lack of noninvasive biomarkers, its role in the pathogenesis of normal ageing population is limited. Indicators based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are the most promising methods for assessing GS impairments indirectly, this preliminary study was desired to evaluate whether the MRI-derived GS indices are age-related and to detect the associations among them.

Objectives: To design, implement, and evaluate a case-based curriculum in healthcare leadership, administration, and career development embedded within a traditional chair's report for pediatrics residents.

Study Design: Following a formal needs assessment, we developed 8 interactive, case-based sessions addressing key topics in healthcare leadership, administration, and career development, including recruitment, negotiation, artificial intelligence in medicine, and healthcare reimbursement. Sessions incorporated learning objectives, case scenarios, reflection questions, and key takeaways, with pre-readings provided for select topics.

Choroid plexus volume and its association with cognitive performance across the lifespan: Links to sleep quality and healthy brain aging.

Neurobiol Aging

Faculty of Health, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT, Australia; Brain-Behaviour Research Group, School of Science and Technology, University of New England, Australia. Electronic address:

The choroid plexus (ChP) is implicated in inflammation and supports the clearance of waste byproducts, particularly those related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Increases in ChP volume have been associated with older age and cognitive decline in both clinical and healthy cohorts. However, the clearance of waste products in the brain is also related to sleep, and sleep quality may contribute to ChP dysfunction and cognitive decline.

This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding a chitosan/perlite (Ch/P) carrier to anaerobic digestion (AD) on the efficiency and kinetics of the process, as well as the directional changes in the bacterial microbiome. A carrier with this composition was applied in the AD process for the first time. A laboratory experiment using wafer waste (WF) and cheese (CE) waste was conducted under mesophilic conditions.
