Objectives: Hypersensitive acupoints in specific body areas are associated with corresponding internal or visceral disorders. Back-shu points are clinically significant for the diagnosis of visceral organ disease, according to the biomechanical characteristics of the acupoints. In this study, we assessed the biomechanical characteristics and pain sensitivities of five back-shu points linked to five visceral organs in healthy participants.
Methods: The study included 48 volunteer participants. A myotonometry was used to assess muscle tone and muscle stiffness at five back-shu points associated with visceral organs. Pressure was monitored using a microcontroller and a force sensor. Pain sensitivity was assessed in response to deep pressure pain produced by a constant force.
Results: Substantial differences in muscle tone and stiffness were observed at the five back-shu points; muscle tone was highest at BL15, whereas muscle tone and muscle stiffness were lowest at BL23. Moreover, pain sensitivity was significantly different among the acupoints; pain sensitivity was highest at BL23. There was a significant negative correlation between muscle tone and pain sensitivity.
Conclusions: We found significant differences in muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and pain sensitivity among five back-shu points associated with visceral organs, which may be attributable to anatomical variations at each point. Our findings suggest that differences at back-shu points should be considered to ensure the accurate diagnosis of visceral disease.

Background: Increasing evidence indicates a bidirectional interaction between the gut microbiota and sleep regulation via the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Acupuncture is widely used to treat insomnia, and its efficacy may be mediated in part by modulation of the gut microbiota and its metabolic pathways.
Methods: A rat model of insomnia was established by intraperitoneal injection of para-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA).

Objective: To observe the effect of acupuncture at back- points on patients with post-stroke tracheotomy on the basis of extracorporeal diaphragmatic pacing (EDP) combined with conventional acupuncture.
Methods: A total of 64 patients with post-stroke tracheotomy were randomly divided into an experiment group (32 cases, 2 cases dropped out) and a control group (32 cases, 2 cases dropped out). The control group received EDP combined with conventional acupuncture, acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV20), Zhongwan (CV12) and bilateral Fengchi (GB20), Quchi (LI11), Hegu (LI4), Neiguan (PC6), Xuehai (SP10) , Yinlingquan (SP9), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Zusanli (ST36), 30 min each time.

The paper introduces the experience of Professor in treatment of diseases with bloodletting therapy. Regarding acupoint selection, the main acupoints are selected from the meridians containing excessive blood based on the identification of pathogenesis, and the back- points of the foot- bladder meridian are predominant. The acupoints (e.

Objective: To observe the skin surface temperature at the related back- points in the patients with the different levels of pulmonary ventilation function in chronic persistent asthma, and to explore the correlation between the skin temperature at the back- points and pulmonary ventilation function indexes based on "lung governing the skin and hair".
Methods: Sixty-one patients with chronic persistent asthma, based on the level of pulmonary ventilation function, were assigned into a reduced pulmonary ventilation function group (reduced function group, 32 cases) and a normal pulmonary ventilation function group (normal function group, 29 cases). In the two groups, the skin surface temperature was measured in the sites of bilateral Feishu (BL13), Geshu (BL17), Pishu (BL20) and Shenshu (BL23); and the pulmonary ventilation function indexes (the percentage of predicted value of forced vital capacity [FVC%pred], the percentage of predicted value of forced expiratory volume in the first second [FEV1%pred], the percentage of predicted value of FEV1/FVC [FEV1/FVC%pred] and the percentage of predicted value of the peak expiratory flow [PEF%pred]) were recorded.

The rules of acupoint selection and treatment were identified and discovered from the collected ancient acupuncture-moxibustion prescriptions recorded the earliest for epigastric pain. The database of ancient acupuncture-moxibustion prescriptions for epigastric pain was set up using Excel2016 software. After the disease term, etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms and acupoints were normalized, the underlying multi-dimensional correlation among the elements of acupuncture-moxibustion was explored, using the frequency statistics and the association rule of Apriori algorithm.
