The presence of villous adenoma in the urinary tract is an exceedingly rare finding. On a histological and cytological level, this tissue is essentially identical to that typically found in the colon. These lesions do have malignancy potential and, when present with coexistent adenocarcinoma, have a risk of recurrence and metastasis even after surgical resection. Although villous adenomas of the urinary tract have been almost exclusively treated with surgical intervention in the literature, we present a case of villous adenoma with underlying adenocarcinoma of the prostatic urethra that was successfully treated with combined chemoradiation therapy. While surgical excision has been shown to be curative in diseases with isolated villous adenoma, more aggressive treatment with radiation and/or chemotherapy can be considered in patients with concurrent adenocarcinoma. However, more research into this subject is required to properly determine the best choice of therapy for this niche patient population.

Objective: The diagnosis of precancerous lesions of colorectal cancer (CRC) presents significant challenges in clinical practice. In this study, we conducted a clinical investigation using the UCAD technique after analyzing chromosomal copy number variations (CNVs) in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples from various pathological stages, aiming to evaluate the value of detecting chromosomal instability (CIN) in CRC diagnosis.
Methods: Based on colonoscopic pathological findings, we selected 39 FFPE specimens of tubular adenomas, 8 FFPE specimens of villous adenomas, 16 cases diagnosed as tubular-villous adenomas, and 14 cases without defined pathological subtype classification.
Electrolyte depletion syndrome (EDS), also known as McKittrick-Wheelock syndrome, is a rare but life-threatening condition caused by secretory diarrhea from colorectal villous tumors, often accompanied by severe electrolyte imbalances and renal dysfunction. Large, circumferential tumors have traditionally been managed with surgical resection, frequently requiring stoma formation. Recently, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has emerged as a minimally invasive alternative, although its feasibility for large rectal tumors remains limited.

Background: The clinical significance of adenoma is as a result of being a precancerous lesion with long latency, harbouring of invasive carcinoma, bearing similar clinical features with colorectal cancer, and as part of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes. Over-expression of the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme has been noticed in adenomas with unfavourable features. However, this information is limited in Africa.
