Determination of evolutionary mechanisms underlying innovative traits is crucial for understanding the vast diversity of species and phenotypes. Given their respiratory physiologies, fishes are compelling subjects for evolutionary analysis of the hemoprotein-based oxygen-transport systems. Asian noodlefishes (Osmeriformes: Salangidae) and Antarctic icefishes (Notothenioidei: Channichthyidae) are examples of fish clades that generally do not express myoglobin or hemoglobin.

The ferret model is widely used to study influenza A viruses (IAVs) isolated from multiple avian and mammalian species, as IAVs typically replicate in the respiratory tract of ferrets without the need for prior host adaptation. During standard IAV risk assessments, tissues are routinely collected from ferrets at a fixed time point post-inoculation to assess the capacity for systemic spread. Here, we describe a data set of virus titers in tissues collected from both respiratory tract and extrapulmonary sites 3 days post-inoculation from over 300 ferrets inoculated with more than 100 unique IAVs (inclusive of H1, H2, H3, H5, H7, and H9 IAV subtypes, both mammalian and zoonotic origin).

Calcium (Ca)/calmodulin (CaM)-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is an emerging drug target for age-related diseases. It is a multifunctional kinase with complex activation modes, numerous isoforms, broad tissue distribution, and a dual role in health and disease. In particular, its isoforms share a high degree of conservation within the catalytic and regulatory domains, with only minor differences confined to the linker region.

Background: Resistant hypertension (RHT) is a challenging clinical condition characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure despite adherence to lifestyle modifications and the use of at least three antihypertensive agents, including a high-dose diuretic. RHT is a heterogeneous condition, influenced by multiple pathophysiological mechanisms such as sodium retention, sympathetic overactivity, and vascular dysfunction. Among these, hyperaldosteronism plays a pivotal role in a subset of patients.

Global optimization problems, ubiquitous scientific research, and engineering applications necessitate sophisticated algorithms adept at navigating intricate, high-dimensional search landscapes. The Escape (ESC) algorithm, inspired by the complex dynamics of crowd evacuation behavior-where individuals exhibit calm, herding, or panic responses-offers a compelling nature-inspired paradigm for addressing these challenges. While ESC demonstrates a strong intrinsic balance between exploration and exploitation, opportunities exist to enhance its inter-agent communication and search trajectory diversification.
