Article Abstract

Glass formers are, in general, classified as strong or fragile depending on whether their relaxation rates follow Arrhenius or super-Arrhenius temperature dependence. There are, however, notable exceptions, such as water, which exhibit a fragile-to-strong (FTS) transition and behave as fragile and strong, respectively, at high and low temperatures. In this work, the FTS transition is studied using a distinguishable-particle lattice model previously demonstrated to be capable of simulating both strong and fragile glasses [C.-S. Lee, M. Lulli, L.-H. Zhang, H.-Y. Deng, and C.-H. Lam, Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 265703 (2020)0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.125.265703]. Starting with a bimodal pair-interaction distribution appropriate for fragile glasses, we show that by narrowing down the energy dispersion in the low-energy component of the distribution, a FTS transition is observed. The transition occurs at a temperature at which the stretching exponent of the relaxation is minimized, in agreement with previous molecular dynamics simulations.

Tibetan Plateau (TP) is known as the Third Pole, yet little is known about environmental behavior and trophodynamic of PFAS in pristine ecosystem linked to accelerated glaciers melting. We characterized sediment-water partition behaviors in high-altitude region, compared trophic magnification potential between different climatic zones, and used structural equation model (SEM) to link geographic, biologic variability to PFAS bioaccumulation. Short-chained (including PFBA and PFBS) were predominant in water, whereas long-chained (6:2 FTS, PFOS) contributed more in organisms from Yarlung Tsangpo River, suggesting long-chain dependence bioaccumulation potential.

In order to explore the essence of the anticoccidiosis of anticoccidial drugs under bioelectric currents, the intermolecular double-proton transfer and conformational transformation of 4-pyridone-3-carboxylic acid were investigated by quantum chemistry calculations (at the M06-2X/6-311++G**, M06-2X/aug-cc-pVTZ and CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ levels) and finite temperature string (FTS) under external electric fields. The solvent effect of HO on the double-proton transfer was evaluated by the integral equation formalism polarized continuum model. The results indicate that the influences of the external electric fields along the direction of the dipole moment on double-proton transfer are significant.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are ubiquitous in environmental media and are a concern for food web-driven exposure to ecological receptors. Terrestrial life stage amphibians concurrently represent taxa that have high potential for exposure but are generally data-poor in comparison to their aquatic life stages. Adult American toads (Anaxyrus americanus) likely have high dermal exposure to soil and eat terrestrial organisms that are likely to accumulate chemicals from soil.

Cost-Effective Synthesis of FeC Catalyst From Nanosized Zero-Valent Iron to Achieve Efficient Photothermocatalytic CO Hydrogenation to Light Olefins.

Fe-based catalysts are commonly applied in the process of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) to olefins, with Hägg iron carbide (FeC) recognized as the primary active phase. However, iron carbonyls, the raw materials for wet chemical synthesis of FeC, are expensive and toxic, which limits large-scale preparation. Here, a cost-effective and versatile method is proposed for the synthesis of FeC nanoparticles (NPs) with nanosized zero-valent iron (abbreviated as NZVI, prepared by reducing iron salts or ball-milling iron powder) instead of iron carbonyls, achieving a cost reduction of 76.
