Background: Despite modern systemic chemotherapy, survival remains poor for patients with advanced isolated peritoneal metastases from the gastrointestinal tract. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) with oxaliplatin.
Patients And Methods: We conducted a phase 1/2, open label, non-comparative, dose escalation and expansion trial of PIPAC with oxaliplatin in patients with a peritoneal cancer index (PCI) of more than 5, 13 and 15 for respectively a gastric, small bowel and colorectal primary cancer, and who had received at least three months of systemic chemotherapy. PIPAC cycle lengths were 4-6 weeks with systemic chemotherapy allowed 15 days after each PIPAC. PCI and oxaliplatin tumor concentration were assessed every PIPAC cycle. The main endpoints were tolerability, tumor response, and survival.
Results: Between 2017 and 2020, 34 patients were enrolled in three centers, in this phase 1/2 study, of whom 25 were evaluable at the recommended dose determined in the phase I trial (90 mg/m plus systemic 5-FU). Before inclusion, patients received a median of 2 [1-4] chemotherapy lines and had a median PCI of 22.5 [7-29]. At this dose, the safety profile showed acceptable tolerability. Eight patients (32 %) had grade 3/4 treatment-related adverse events. Minor (grade 1/2) adverse events were mainly abdominal pain (n = 19, 76 %) and nausea (n = 16, 64 %). Median PFS was 6.1 months and median OS was 13 months.
Conclusion: In patients with advanced and refractory peritoneal metastasis, PFS of 6.1 months is encouraging. A prospective randomized phase II study is required.

Hyperbolic lattices present a unique opportunity to venture beyond the conventional paradigm of crystalline many-body physics and explore correlated phenomena in negatively curved space. As a theoretical benchmark for such investigations, we extend Kitaev's spin-1/2 honeycomb model to hyperbolic lattices and exploit their non-Euclidean space-group symmetries to solve the model exactly. We elucidate the ground-state phase diagram on the {8,3} lattice and find a gapped Z_{2} spin liquid with Abelian anyons, a gapped chiral spin liquid with non-Abelian anyons and chiral edge states, and a Majorana metal whose finite low-energy density of states is dominated by non-Abelian Bloch states.

Quasi-one-dimensional magnets can host an ordered longitudinal spin-density wave state (LSDW) in magnetic field at low temperature, when longitudinal correlations are strengthened by Ising anisotropies. In the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet YbAlO_{3} this happens via Ising-like interchain interactions. Here, we report the first experimental observation of magnetization plateaux at 1/5 and 1/3 of the saturation value via thermal transport and magnetostriction measurements in YbAlO_{3}.

Garlic is an important bulb vegetable which is used for both culinary and medical purposes worldwide. In vitro propagation is considered a promising technic for production and conservation of disease-free garlic seed. The efficiency of in vitro culture was studied for micropropagation of native Iranian garlic genotypes.

Sarcosine (Sar), a critical potential biomarker for prostate cancer (PCa), is primarily detected via enzyme cascade reactions involving sarcosine oxidase (SOx) and peroxidase. Nevertheless, the intermediate product hydrogen peroxide (HO) tends to diffuse to the bulk solution phase without entering subsequent reaction, leading to suboptimal detection sensitivity and compromised analytical performance. To tackle this challenge, a multilayered sandwich nanozyme cascade sensor (designated as Cu-MOF/Rf@BDC) is proposed through a confinement-mediated HO enrichment strategy.

Bietti crystalline dystrophy (BCD) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the gene, characterized by crystal-like lipid deposits in the retina, progressive photoreceptor loss, and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) deterioration. Currently, there are no approved treatments for BCD. VGR-R01, an investigational gene therapy, uses subretinal administration of recombinant adeno-associated virus type 8 (AAV8) vector to deliver the human CYP4V2 gene.
