Article Abstract

The behaviour and compatibility of monoclinic sodium manganite, α-NaMnO, cathodes at the interface with electrolytes based on the 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (EMIFSI) and N-trimethyl-N-butylammonium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (NFSI) ionic liquids is presented and discussed. The Na insertion process was analysed through cyclic voltammetry tests combined with impedance spectroscopy measurements and the cell performance was tested by charge-discharge cycles. XPS and FIB-SEM measurements allowed analysis of the surface composition and the morphology of post-mortem cathodes. Overall, the α-NaMnO cathode showed high reversibility in NFSI-based electrolyte, delivering 60 % of the initial capacity after 1200 cycles in conjunction with a Coulombic efficiency above 99 %. To our knowledge, these very promising results are the best result obtained till now for monolithic α-NaMnO cathodes, are ascribable to the formation of a stable passive layer onto the electrode surface, as confirmed by spectroscopic analysis.

The human auditory system must distinguish relevant sounds from noise. Severe hearing loss can be treated with cochlear implants (CIs), but how the brain adapts to electrical hearing remains unclear. This study examined adaptation to unilateral CI use in the first and seventh months after CI activation using speech comprehension measures and electroencephalography recordings, both during passive listening and an active spatial listening task.

[An incidental atrial fibrillation. Is the best the enemy of good?].

Rev Med Suisse

Service de cardiologie, HFR Fribourg - Hôpital cantonal, 1752 Villars-sur-Glâne.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in the elderly and often incidental. While anticoagulation is facilitated by risk-stratification scores, rate versus rhythm-control in the elderly and likely asymptomatic population remain challenging. We report an 80-year-old male with newly diagnosed slow AF, referred for an electrical cardioversion after amiodarone loading.

Plastic waste continues to be a major environmental challenge, worsened by energy-intensive conventional recycling methods that require highly pure feedstocks. In this review, emerging electrochemical upcycling technologies are critically examined, focusing on the electro-oxidation transformation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into valuable chemical products. Key reaction pathways and target products are outlined to clarify the selective electrochemical reforming of PET.

Unlocking High-Performance Electrochemiluminescence in Supramolecular Coordination Frameworks via π-Bridge Engineering and Aggregation.

Aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence (AIECL) is a promising strategy for enhancing electrochemiluminescence (ECL) efficiency by minimizing energy loss of excited-state ECL emitters. However, rational design of high-efficiency AIECL emitters is hindered by limited mechanistic understanding and an unclear structure-performance relationship. To address this, four supramolecular coordination frameworks (SCFs) with varying π-bridge structures are synthesized using pyridine-functionalized tetraphenylethene (TPE) as the ligand and Pt(II) as the coordination center.

Core-shell electrodes provide a potential and innovative approach for significantly enhancing the performance and capacity of supercapacitors (SCs) by combining two distinct materials. The capabilities of these advanced electrodes surpass those of conventional single electrodes. Specifically, these exhibit better energy storage, higher power density, and improved overall performance.
