Objectives: In recent years, commercial molecular tools for diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis have emerged, requiring evaluation to ensure quality. Here we assessed the specificity of spp.-ELITe MGB Assay a commercial assay tergeting 18S gene of spp.
Design And Methods: As part of a method validation, we evaluate the specificity of the spp.-ELITe MGB Assay by testing fourteen culture based samples of sequenced non-Aspergillus fungal species. The benefits of a pre-lysis treatment was evaluated in parallel on serial dilutions of an strain.
Results: Our findings revealed cross-reactivity in five strains using the 50 copies/mL cut-off recommended by the manufacturer, suggesting potential diagnostic errors and inappropriate management of patients. Pre-lysis treatment does not affect the limit of detection at serial dilution.
Conclusions: In conclusion, the spp. ELITe MGB Assay exhibits limited specificity in culture-based samples, underscoring the importance of careful utilization in laboratories. Further studies are warranted to better comprehend of the impact of this cross-reactivity on clinical samples.

Coagulation factor XII has been identified as a potential drug target that could prevent thrombosis without increasing the risk of bleeding. However, human data to support the development of factor XII-directed therapeutics are lacking. To assess the role of factor XII in venous thromboembolism, we examine genetic variation in the coding region of the F12 locus across 703,745 participants in the UK Biobank and NIH All of Us biorepositories.

Herpesviruses are associated with disease in several aquatic bird species, including penguins. Magellanic penguin herpesvirus 1 (MagHV1) was initially detected in 58.3 % of oiled Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) in South America presenting with respiratory distress characterized by a combination of necrohemorrhagic tracheitis, fibrinous air sacculitis, pneumonia, and death.

Background: The quantitative effect of frailty on post-operative complications in older adults undergoing surgical emergencies is not well understood.
Methods: The 2013-2019ACS-NSQIP database was used to identify emergency laparotomy patients≥65 years. Frailty was measured using the modified-frailty-index-5 factors (mFI-5).

: The gene pool of the Apennine wolf is affected by admixture with domestic variants due to anthropogenic hybridisation with dogs. Genetic monitoring at the population level involves assessing the extent of admixture in single individuals, ranging from pure wolves to recent hybrids or wolf backcrosses, through the analysis of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) markers. Although individually non-diagnostic, mtDNA is nevertheless essential for completing the final diagnosis of genetic admixture.

: Modern implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) utilize single-chamber (SC) or dual-chamber (DC) discrimination algorithms to differentiate between tachyarrhythmias and minimize the risk of inappropriate therapies. While modern SC algorithms, especially those with morphology detection, are considered comparable to DC algorithms, the available data are limited. We aimed to compare the efficacy of SC and DC discrimination algorithms in malignant tachyarrhythmias.
