Article Abstract

Background: The endodontic space is complex, and using a single-cone obturation technique fails to ensure a complete filling.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the effect of ultrasonic activation, sonic activation, and single-cone technique of a biosealer on its dentinal tubular penetration.

Materials And Methods: In the experiment, single-root mandibular premolars were randomly assigned to three groups ( = 20): group A, ultrasonic activation; Group B, sonic activation; and Group C, single-cone technique. Penetration of the fluorescently labeled biosealer was investigated using a confocal laser scanning microscope.

Results: The data were statistically analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests ( = 0.05). The highest penetration of biosealer was observed in Group A, followed by Group B ( < 0.05).

Conclusions: Dentinal tubule penetration of biosealer was significantly improved by ultrasonic and sonic activation techniques.

Impact of cone system compatibility on single cone bioceramic obturation in canals prepared with variable taper NiTi rotary files.

Objective: This study examined how system-matching gutta-percha (GP) cones in conjunction with calcium silicate-based sealers (CSBS) affect the sealing quality of canals prepared with variable taper nickel titanium (NiTi) files, using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT).

Materials And Methods: Forty-eight extracted human mandibular premolars were instrumented using the ProTaper Ultimate and divided into four groups based on GP cone (system-matching vs. non-matching) and sealer type (PlanB vs.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of apical root resection level and root canal filling technique on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth. Eighty mandibular premolars were selected and evenly distributed based on similar anatomical characteristics into two groups (n = 40) according to the root canal filling technique: single-cone technique and lateral compaction technique. One week after root canal treatment, each group was further divided into four subgroups (n = 10) based on the level of apical root resection: without root resection, 3 mm, 4 mm, and 5 mm.

Sealing ability of the single-cone obturation technique with bioceramic sealer iRoot SP in oval root canals: an in vitro study.

BMC Oral Health

August 2025

Department of Operative Dentistry, Preventive Dentistry and Endodontics, School of Stomatology, The Affiliated Stomatology Hospital, Kunming Medical University, Kunming, 65000, China.

Background: The single-cone obturation technique with iRoot SP demonstrated strong filling capacity in circular root canals; however, its sealing ability in oval root canals remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the sealing performance of the single-cone obturation technique with iRoot SP in oval root canals, in comparison with warm vertical compaction obturation.

Methods: A total of 129 single-rooted teeth with oval canals were prepared using rotary instruments and randomly divided into three groups (n = 43 per group): warm vertical compaction obturation with AH Plus (WVC + AH Plus), warm vertical compaction obturation with iRoot SP (WVC + iRoot SP), and single-cone obturation with iRoot SP (SC + iRoot SP).

Context: Bioceramic sealers must provide filling and dimensional stability over time.

Aims: To evaluate by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), the effect of sealer thickness on the physical properties of Bio-C Sealer (BCS) and BioRoot RCS (BR) after immersion in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) for 7 and 30 days.

Materials And Methods: Extracted bovine teeth were prepared with ProDesign Logic 40/0.

This study compared the marginal adaptation of iRoot SP (non-heat compatible sealer) and Endosequence BC HiFlow (heat-compatible sealer) after root canal obturation using single cone or warm vertical compaction techniques. Forty mandibular premolars were prepared and randomly divided into four groups based on sealer type and obturation technique. After obturation and incubation, the roots were sectioned at coronal, middle, and apical levels.
