Prurigo nodularis (PN) has been associated with autoimmune diseases, though longitudinal data are limited. This study investigates the risk of autoimmune disease development in PN patients using a global electronic health record database. This retrospective cohort study analysed data from the Global Collaborative Network within the TriNetX research network.

Pruritus is a frequent symptom in medicine. Population-based studies show that one in five persons in the general population has suffered from chronic pruritus (CP) at least once in their lifetime, with a 12-month incidence of 7%. CP, which can affect all age groups, is associated with numerous, often interdisciplinary medical conditions.

Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by intense pruritus and hyperkeratotic nodules. Pregabalin, a γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue commonly used for neuropathic pain, has shown promise in alleviating chronic pruritus, including PN. Although not currently approved for the treatment of PN or chronic pruritus, pregabalin is considered a promising off-label therapeutic option.

The rise of fad diets and unregulated supplement use, amplified by social media and aggressive marketing, has dramatically shifted public attitudes toward nutrition and health. This new landscape is associated with a growing spectrum of dermatologic presentations, as the skin frequently serves as an early indicator of both nutritional deficiencies and toxicities. Popular dietary trends, such as ketogenic, carnivore, and raw vegan regimens, have been linked to cutaneous disorders, including prurigo pigmentosa, scurvy-like eruptions, hair loss, xerosis, and pigmentary changes.
