Purpose: To evaluate and compare the visual outcomes of an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) with two different monofocal IOLs.
Setting: Eye Clinic, Department of Medicine, Surgery and Health Sciences, University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy.
Design: Prospective, single-center, single-masked, randomized controlled clinical study.
Methods: The study included patients undergoing phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. Patients were consecutively randomized by block randomization and assigned in a 1:1:1 allocation ratio to three study arms to bilaterally receive Tecnis Eyhance™ (model ICB00) or Tecnis monofocal 1-piece (model PCB00) or Clareon monofocal (model CNA0T0), respectively. Monocular and binocular (both corrected and uncorrected) visual acuities for far, intermediate and near were registered and compared among groups at 3 months. To track changes in patient quality of life, the Catquest-9SF questionnaire was administered to each patient before and after cataract extraction.
Results: Ninety patients (30 for each group) were enrolled. At 3 months follow-up, statistically significant differences for intermediate visual acuities were found between the three groups. Nonstatistically significant differences were observed for distance visual acuities and the changes in Catquest-9SF scores.
Conclusion: Tecnis Eyhance™ provided better results in intermediate visual outcomes without adverse effects on patients' quality of life.

Perinatal stroke is a vascular injury occurring early in life, often resulting in motor deficits (hemiplegic cerebral palsy/HCP). Comorbidities may also include poor neuropsychological outcomes, such as deficits in memory. Previous studies have used resting state functional MRI (fMRI) to demonstrate that functional connectivity (FC) within hippocampal circuits is associated with memory function in typically developing controls (TDC) and in adults after stroke, but this is unexplored in perinatal stroke.

Background: Ultrasound-guided abdominal wall blocks are increasingly used to enhance postoperative analgesia in laparoscopic nephrectomy. Among these, the transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block and the quadratus lumborum (QL) block have emerged as promising techniques. However, no comprehensive review has yet compared the analgesic efficacy of these two regional approaches.

Introduction: Tumor deposits are an important negative prognostic factor for long-term oncological outcomes in colorectal cancer patients, independent of lymph node status. Several novel models have been proposed to further integrate tumor deposits into the TNM-staging system, but their comparative performance remains unclear. The aim of this study was to identify, compare and validate novel prognostic models incorporating tumor deposits for N-stage classification.

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are nanoscale, structurally versatile metal-oxo clusters with emerging applications in sustainability, energy, nanoelectronics, and life science technologies. Owing to their structural complexity, some all-inorganic POMs are often perceived as serendipitous outcomes from self-assembly processes, which poses challenges for scalable rational design. From this perspective, we therefore examine how the development of POM informatics and, more generally, data-driven POM exploration can pave the way for the molecular engineering of new POM-based materials targeting customized applications.

Background: Hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized adults. Numerous prognostic models have been developed to identify those patients with elevated risk of HA-VTE. None, however, has met the necessary criteria to guide clinical decision-making.
