Anserine, an imidazole dipeptide, is present in the muscles of birds and fish and has various bioactivities, such as anti-inflammatory and anti-fatigue effects. However, the effect of anserine on the development of heart failure remains unknown. We cultured primary cardiomyocytes with 0.03 mM to 10 mM anserine and stimulated them with phenylephrine for 48 h. Anserine significantly suppressed the phenylephrine-induced increases in cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, ANF and BNP mRNA levels, and histone H3K9 acetylation. An in vitro histone acetyltransferase (HAT) assay showed that anserine directly suppressed p300-HAT activity with an IC of 1.87 mM. Subsequently, 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC) and were randomly assigned to receive daily oral treatment with anserine-containing material, Marine Active (60 or 200 mg/kg anserine) or vehicle for 8 weeks. Echocardiography revealed that anserine 200 mg/kg significantly prevented the TAC-induced increase in left ventricular posterior wall thickness and the decrease in left ventricular fractional shortening. Moreover, anserine significantly suppressed the TAC-induced acetylation of histone H3K9. These results indicate that anserine suppresses TAC-induced systolic dysfunction, at least in part, by inhibiting p300-HAT activity. Anserine may be used as a pharmacological agent for human heart failure therapy.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between ultrasound (US) findings and radiographic Kellgren-Lawrence (K/L) grades, symptom severity, and the presence of generalized osteoarthritis (GOA) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA), and to identify key US parameters associated with OA severity.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 166 patients (332 knees) with radiographically confirmed knee OA. US assessments included medial and lateral meniscus extrusion (MME, LME), suprapatellar effusion, synovitis, femoral cartilage thickness (FCT), femoral cartilage lesions, Baker's cyst, pes anserine bursitis, patellar tendinopathy, and Hoffa's fat pad pathology.

Background: Anserine is a bioactive and nutritional food supplement, widely used in the food health supplement, athletic nutrition, and medical fields. The aim was to investigate the mechanism of anserine in alleviating atherosclerosis. ApoE mice were fed a high-fat diet and orally administered anserine at doses of 30, 60, and 120 mg kg d for 16 weeks.

Objective: To investigate the association between knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and the presence of hallux valgus and flat feet.
Method: This retrospective study analyzed KOA patients from January 2022 to March 2024, investigating the correlation between KOA and hallux valgus and flatfoot. The diagnosis of KOA and assessment of its symptoms were conducted using the diagnostic criteria and grading system established by the American College of Rheumatology, specifically the Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grading system and measurement of the femorotibial angle (FTA).

Service of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Department of Surgery, EOC, Lugano, Switzerland.
Aims: To investigate the correlation between symptoms, in terms of pain and functional scores, and the extent of cartilage damage as well as other intra- and extra-articular factors in patients suffering from early knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Methods: The subjects were selected from the Osteoarthritis Initiative database according to the following inclusion criteria: Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grade 0-1-2, MRI at baseline, and availability of cartilage-denuded subchondral bone values. For each patient the following data were analyzed: demographic data, KL grade, percentage of subchondral bone denuded from cartilage, patellar quadriceps tendinitis, effusion, anserine bursa tenderness, meniscal extrusion, Hoffa body synovitis, bone marrow lesions (BML), visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) total score, and WOMAC pain subscale.

Imidazole dipeptides (IDPs), including anserine, carnosine, and balenine, are predominantly found in the skeletal muscles of vertebrates. Balenine is the major IDP in cetaceans. Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute phase protein released in response to damage or injury in various tissues, including skeletal muscles.
