Additive manufacturing (AM) enables design freedom to fabricate functionally graded wave springs designed by varying design parameters, which are not possible in traditional manufacturing. AM also enables optimization of the wave spring design for specific load-bearing requirements. Existing wave springs are manufactured by metal with constant dimensions (width and thickness of the strip, diameter) using customized traditional machines in which design variations are almost impossible. This study aims to investigate the effect of wave height, the overlap between the two consecutive coils, and the number of waves per coil on the mechanical properties, for example, load-bearing capacity, stiffness, and energy absorption of contact wave springs. Two designs, that is, rectangular and variable thickness wave springs, were chosen and the design of experiment was devised using Minitab software, resulting in 24 samples. HP MultiJet Fusion (MJF) printer was used to manufacture the samples for performing uniaxial compression tests up to 10 cycles and 90% of the compressible distance to study the variation in mechanical properties due to changes in parameters. Experimental and simulation results showed that variable thickness wave springs have better load bearing, stiffness, and energy absorption compared with the rectangular counterparts. In addition to that, the number of waves per coil and the overlap are directly proportional to the load-bearing capacity as well as stiffness of the wave springs, while the constant wave height is responsible for more uniformly distributed stresses throughout the coils. Load-bearing capacity was increased by 62%, stiffness by 37%, and energy absorption by 20% once the number of waves per coil is increased from 5 to 6 in rectangular wave springs. Overall, the parametric variations significantly affect the performance of wave springs; thus, designers can choose the optimized values of investigated parameters to design customized wave springs for specific applications as per load/stiffness requirements.

This study investigates the phenomenon of mode repulsion in Lamb waves propagating through two coupled plates with an elastic interface. Using a spring-based coupling model and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method, the dispersion curves of the coupled system are analyzed under various interface conditions-weak coupling, sliding boundary, and perfect coupling. This research highlights how the mechanical stiffness of the interface influences the separation of modes and the emergence of repulsion regions.

Introduction: Flavors play an important role in e-cigarette use among both young people and adults, but evaluations of flavored e-cigarette policies have focused almost exclusively on youth. This longitudinal study examined how flavored e-cigarette policies affect tobacco use over time for different adult age groups using data from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study.
Methods: Adults age 21+ at Wave 5 (2018-2019) comprised the analytic sample.

When a new pandemic virus emerges in a naive population the only control options are Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions, NPI's, until vaccines or effective treatments become available. Here we report on the Danish suppression strategy and use of a combination of NPI's with a notable absence of extremely strict measures (such as stay-at-home orders). Only 7% were infected (serological evidence) in the first year of the pandemic, compared to ∼50% in Lombardy in the first wave alone.

In spite of the ongoing exquisite work of a multitude of researchers worldwide including governmental institutions like the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and for example in the United States the FDA Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) embracing Opioid Replacement Therapy (ORT) in 2022, 111,000 people prematurely died from opioid induced overdose. It is estimated that if treatment stays as usual by 2025 the death rate will increase to 165,00.Therefore, we are encouraging the scientific and clinical community to at least consider our "out of the box" thinking whereby we are proposing a new paradigm shift involving the " dopaminergic homeostatic modeling approach and Genetic screening to early identify preaddiction.

Background: Changes in rates of death due to pneumococcus during the COVID-19 pandemic period from 2020 to 2022 are not well understood.
Methods: We obtained vital statistics data for the United States (National Center for Health Statistics), including age, sex, race/ethnicity, cause of death (ICD-10), 2014-2022. Generalized linear models were fit to the period from January 2014-February 2020 and extrapolated to March 2020-December 2022 to generate an expected number of pneumococcal deaths and a 95% prediction interval.
