There is a limited understanding of the survival responses of Campylobacter jejuni during thermal processing, which must be investigated for appropriate risk assessment and processing. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the survival response of C. jejuni and develop a predictive model considering strain variability and uncertainty, which are important for quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) or risk-based processing control measures. We employed the most probable curve (MPC) method to consider the uncertainty in cell concentrations. Further, the multivariate normal (MVN) distribution served as a model for strain variability in bacterial survival behavior. The prediction curves from the MVN successfully captured the parameter variability of the most probable curves of each strain. More than ten reference strains effectively described the strain variability in parameters using the MVN distribution. The findings indicated that, with sufficient strain data, the MVN could estimate the strain variability, including unknown strains. The multi-level model for strain variability can potentially become a specialized tool for QMRA and risk-based processing controls. The combined approach of MPC and MVN provides valuable insights into strain variability, emphasizing the importance of accounting for variability and uncertainty in predictive models for QMRA and risk-based processing control measures.

Sepsis remains a leading cause of critical illness and mortality worldwide, driven by a dysregulated host response to infection and often complicated by persistent tachycardia and cardiovascular dysfunction. Increasing evidence implicates excessive sympathetic activation as a contributor to sepsis-related hemodynamic instability and myocardial injury, prompting growing interest in the use of β-adrenergic blockade as a therapeutic adjunct. This review synthesizes current data on the safety and efficacy of short-acting, cardioselective β-blockers (BBs), particularly esmolol and landiolol, in septic shock.

Unlabelled: There is a considerable interest in the association between and colorectal cancer (CRC). Recently, it was suggested that this association is valid only for a distinct clade of ( C2) and that strains belonging to another clade ( C1) are only associated with the oral cavity. It was further suggested that this made C1 a natural comparator when looking for candidate genes associated with the pathogenicity of C2.

Punicalagin, a polyphenolic compound extracted from pomegranate peel, has received increasing attention in recent years due to its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Punicalagin is capable of inhibiting bacterial growth at sub-inhibitory concentrations by affecting cell membrane formation, disrupting membrane integrity, altering cell permeability, affecting efflux pumps, interfering with quorum sensing and influencing virulence factors. Additionally, punicalagin inhibits viruses by modulating enzyme activity, interacting with viral surface proteins, affecting gene expression, blocking viral attachment, disrupting virus receptor interaction and inhibiting viral replication.

Background And Aim: Synthetic dyes in the textile industry pose risks to human health and environmental safety. The current study aims to examine the efficacy of a novel esterase derived from an endophyte fungus in decolorizing diverse dyes, focusing on its production, purification, optimization, and characterization.
Results: Trichoderma afroharzianum AUMC16433, a novel fungal endophyte with esterase-producing ability, was first detected from the cladodes of Opuntia ficus indica by ITS-rRNA sequencing.
