Eyewitness testimony serves as important evidence in the legal system. Eyewitnesses of a crime can be either the victims themselves-for whom the experience is highly self-referential-or can be bystanders who witness and thus encode the crime in relation to others. There is a gap in past research investigating whether processing information in relation to oneself versus others would later impact people's suggestibility to misleading information. In two experiments (Ns = 68 and 122) with Dutch and Chinese samples, we assessed whether self-reference of a crime event (i.e., victim vs. bystander) affected their susceptibility to false memory creation. Using a misinformation procedure, we photoshopped half of the participants' photographs into a crime slideshow so that they saw themselves as victims of a nonviolent crime, while others watched the slideshow as mock bystander witnesses. In both experiments, participants displayed a self-enhanced suggestibility effect: Participants who viewed themselves as victims created more false memories after receiving misinformation than those who witnessed the same crime as bystanders. These findings suggest that self-reference might constitute a hitherto new risk factor in the formation of false memories when evaluating eyewitness memory reports.

Background And Objectives: The β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations ampicillin-sulbactam (SAM) and amoxicillin-clavulanate (AMC) are frequently used to treat Enterobacterales infections and are often assumed to be interchangeable, leading some clinical microbiology laboratories to report antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) results for only one of these agents. Given differences in β-lactamase inhibition between sulbactam and clavulanate, we hypothesized that the activities of SAM and AMC may differ.
Methods: To understand the prevalence of discordant SAM and AMC susceptibility results in Enterobacterales species, we analysed AST results obtained by broth microdilution (MicroScan WalkAway, Beckman Coulter) for Enterobacterales isolates recovered from clinical specimens between 2018 and 2022 at an academic medical centre in New York City.

Background: The development of specific fluorescent probes for cancer cell discrimination holds significant promise for advancing cancer diagnostics. Conventionally, these probes operate by translating differences in biomarkers or microenvironmental factors into variations in whole-cell fluorescence intensity. Over 60 % of kidney transplant candidates are non-sensitised while remaining 40 % are sensitised because of previous exposure to human alloantigens during previous transplants, blood transfusions, and pregnancy in women. Pre-transplant compatibility testing is mandatory prior to renal transplantation for detecting the presence of donor-specific antibodies (DSAs), which are associated with early hyperacute/acute and later chronic rejections. Initially, complement-dependent cytotoxicity crossmatch (CDCXM) was used as a traditional method for detecting preformed DSAs.
