The concept of three-dimensional stacking of device layers has attracted significant attention with the increasing difficulty in scaling down devices. Monolithic 3D (M3D) integration provides a notable benefit in achieving a higher connection density between upper and lower device layers than through-via-silicon. Nevertheless, the practical implementation of M3D integration into commercial production faces several technological challenges. Developing an upper active channel layer for device fabrication is the primary challenge in M3D integration. The difficulty arises from the thermal budget limitation for the upper channel process because a high thermal budget process may degrade the device layers below. This paper provides an overview of the potential technologies for forming active channel layers in the upper device layers of M3D integration, particularly for complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor devices and digital circuits. Techniques are for polysilicon, single crystal silicon, and alternative channels, which can solve the temperature issue for the top layer process.

The rapid development of liquid exfoliation technology has boosted fundamental research and applications of ultrathin two-dimensional (2D) materials. However, the small-sized exfoliated 2D materials with a high specific surface area may exhibit poor chemical stability. Understanding the stability of 2D crystals will be significant for their preservation and service and for the development of new stable phases via the spontaneous transition from unstable structures.

Electronic capacitor films based on polymer matrices and inorganic nanofillers capable of storing more energy play a crucial role in advanced modern electrical industries and devices. Herein, a series of nanocomposite films composed of "core-shell-dot" BNNs-PDA@Ag hybrid structures with multiple breakdown strength enhancement mechanisms as fillers and methyl methacrylate--glycidyl methacrylate (MG) copolymers as matrices were successfully synthesized. The introduced 2D and wide-bandgap BNNs not only enhanced the breakdown strength by taking advantage of their excellent physical properties, but also further improved their energy storage properties both at ambient and elevated temperatures through the formation of deeper traps at the organic-inorganic interface.

Organic solar cells (OSCs) with p-i-n architecture usually exhibit decent efficiency due to the easily tunable energy levels of organic interfacial layers (ILs). However, their operational lifetime is limited by the morphological instability of organic ILs especially the electron-transporting layer (ETL) that shows strong self-aggregation tendency. Besides, organic ETLs are confronted with significant challenges including large batch-to-batch variations and high costs.

Silicon carbide nanowires (SiC NWs) combine the benefits of bulk SiC materials with the properties of low-dimensional nanomaterials. They are known for their excellent mechanical strength and durability, which are critical for their potential applications in high-stress environments and micro-nano functional systems. Here, the mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of 2H-SiC NWs with rare defects in the [0001] orientation are reported.

Protein stability is profoundly influenced by the ionic environment, which impacts both structural conformation and catalytic function. In this study, we examined the effects of various Hofmeister salts on the biochemical, structural, and thermodynamic properties of the β-trypsin proteoform. We employed enzymatic assays, fluorescence spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to evaluate how specific cations and anions modulate the enzyme's behavior.
