Diagnosing tuberculosis (TB) in children presents significant challenges, necessitating the identification of reliable biomarkers for accurate diagnosis. In this study, we investigated plasma matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) as potential diagnostic markers. A prospective case-control study involved 167 children classified into confirmed TB, unconfirmed TB, and unlikely TB control groups.

Airway remodelling significantly contributes to the progressive loss of lung function and heightened symptom severity in chronic asthma. Additionally, it often persists and demonstrates reduced responsiveness to the mainstay treatments. The excessive deposition of collagen and extracellular matrix proteins leads to subepithelial fibrosis and airway remodelling, resulting in increased stiffness and decreased elasticity in the airway.

Background: Lack of understanding of interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) hinders the early and accurate identification of these devastating diseases. Current clinical tools limitations highlight the need to complement them with accessible and non-invasive methods. Accordingly, we focused on identifying useful matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) as new biomarkers with clinical value in the diagnosis and prognosis of RA-ILD and SSc-ILD.

Background: The pathophysiology of frozen shoulder (FS) involves abnormal expressions of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) that lead to capsular fibrosis. However, there has been little concern for why diabetic FS has more protracted fibrotic condition. The objective of this study was to compare the expression levels of MMPs and TIMPs in the joint capsule of patients with diabetic and nondiabetic FS.
