Background: Desmoplakin (DSP) pathogenic/likely pathogenic (P/LP) variants are associated with malignant phenotypes of arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (DSP-ACM). Reports of outcomes after ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation in DSP-ACM are scarce.
Objectives: In this study, the authors sought to report on long-term outcomes of VT ablation in DSP-ACM.
Methods: Patients with P/LP DSP variants at 9 institutions undergoing VT ablation were included. Demographic, clinical, and instrumental data as well as all ventricular arrhythmia (VA) events were collected. Sustained VAs after the index procedure were the primary outcome. A per-patient before and after ablation comparison of rates of VA episodes per year was performed as well.
Results: Twenty-four DSP-ACM patients (39.3 ± 12.1 years of age, 62.5% male, median 6,116 [Q1-Q3: 3,362-7,760] premature ventricular complexes [PVCs] per 24 hours, median 4 [Q1-Q3: 2-11] previous VA episodes per patient at ablation) were included. Index procedure was most commonly endocardial/epicardial (19/24) The endocardium of the right ventricle (RV), the left ventricle (LV), or both ventricles were mapped in 8 (33.3%), 9 (37.5%), and 7 (29.2%) cases, respectively. Low voltage potentials were found in 10 of 15 patients in the RV and 11 of 16 in the LV. Endocardial ablation was performed in 18 patients (75.0%). Epicardial mapping in 19 patients (79.2%) identified low voltage potentials in 17, and 16 received epicardial ablation. Over the following 2.9 years (Q1-Q3: 1.8-5.5 years), 13 patients (54.2%) experienced VA recurrences. A significant reduction in per-patient event/year before and after ablation was observed (1.4 [Q1-Q3: 0.5-2.4] to 0.1 [Q1-Q3: 0.0-0.4]; P = 0.009). Two patients needed heart transplantation, and 4 died (3 of heart failure and 1 noncardiac death).
Conclusions: VT ablation in DSP-ACM is effective in reducing the VA burden of the disease, but recurrences are common. Most VT circuits are epicardial, with both LV and RV low voltage abnormalities. Heart failure complicates clinical course and is an important cause of mortality.

Dispersing iridium onto high-specific-surface-area supports is a widely adopted strategy to maximize iridium utilization in anode catalysts of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). However, here we demonstrate that the overall cell performance, including initial efficiency and long-term stability, does not benefit from the typical high specific surface area of catalyst supports. The conventional understanding that high iridium utilization on high-specific-surface-area supports increases activity holds only in aqueous electrolytes, while under the typical working conditions of PEMWE, the mass transport within the anode catalyst layers plays a more significant role in the overall performance.

Electric droplet sorting is widely applied in the screening of target molecules, cells, drugs, and microparticles. Previous studies have made several optimizations on the electrode materials, structures, and arrangements. However, voltages of over 1 kV are required to realize droplet sorting, which causes the undesired droplet splitting.

Developing solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, a high voltage window, low flammability, and excellent interface compatibilities with both the anode and cathode for lithium-metal batteries is still a great challenge but highly desirable. Herein, we achieve this target through an in situ copolymerization of vinyl ethylene carbonate (VEC) together with acrylonitrile (AN) under fitting ratios inside a porous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber membrane doped with flame-retardant decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) molecules. The received fiber-reinforced polycarbonate-based composite electrolyte with an ultrathin thickness of 13 μm exhibits good internal interfacial compatibility because of the same AN structure and superior flame-retardant performance due to the doped DBDPE molecules.

Tetrodotoxin (TTX), the pufferfish toxin, has the potential to cause fatal food poisoning because of its potent voltage-gated sodium channel (Na) blocking activity. 4-epiTTX, 11-norTTX-6(S)-ol, and 11-oxoTTX are the major TTX analogues found in marine animals; thus, their chemical properties and biological activities should be determined. In this study, these three TTX analogues were purified to a high level (purity >97%) from pufferfish and newts.

The integration of information memory and computing enabled by nonvolatile memristive device has been widely acknowledged as a critical solution to circumvent the von Neumann architecture limitations. Herein, the Au/NiO/CaBiTiO/FTO (CBTi/NiO) heterojunction based memristor with varying film thicknesses are demonstrated on FTO/glass substrates, and the CBTi/NiO-4 sample shows the optimal memristor characteristics with 5 × 10 stable switching cycles and 10-s resistance state retention. The electrical conduction in the low-resistance state is dominated by Ohmic behavior, while the high-resistance state exhibited characteristics consistent with the space-charge-limited conduction (SCLC) model.
