Quantitative Na MRI presents numerous technical challenges that limit its application in food science - especially in the context of salt reduction. This study aimed to fill this gap by developing a quantitative Na MRI protocol for following the evolution of salt concentration in food samples. By doing so, valuable information on salting processes of real food products can be obtained.

Combining genome size and pollen morphology data to study species relationships in the genus Daucus (Apiaceae).

BMC Plant Biol

Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Horticulture, University of Agriculture in Krakow, al. Mickiewicza 21, 31-120, Krakow, Poland.

Background: The genus Daucus (Apiaceae) comprises about 40 wild species and the cultivated carrot, a crop of great economic and nutritional importance. The rich genetic diversity of wild Daucus species makes them a valuable gene pool for carrot improvement breeding programs. Therefore, it is essential to have good knowledge of the genome structure and relationships among wild Daucus species.

Raman spectroscopy is an emerging tool in the research and diagnosis of different diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. In this work, blood serum samples collected from healthy controls and dementia patients were analysed by Raman spectroscopy to develop a classification model for the diagnosis of dementia of Alzheimer's type (DAT). Raman spectra were processed by means of multivariate tools for multivariate analysis.
