Article Abstract

Transition metal sulfides (TMS) have been considered as a promising group of electrode materials for supercapacitors as a result of their strong redox activity, but high volumetric strain of the materials during electrochemical reactions causes rapid structural collapse and severe capacity loss. Herein, we have synthesized phosphorus-doped (P-doped) NiS/CoS/ZnS battery-type nanowire/nanosheet arrays as an advanced cathode for supercapacitor through a two-step process of hydrothermal and annealing treatments. The material has a one-dimensional nanowire/two-dimensional nanosheet-like coexisting microscopic morphology, which facilitates the exposure of abundant active centers and promotes the transport and migration of ions in the electrolyte, while the doping of P significantly enhances the conductivity of the electrode material. Simultaneously, the element phosphorus with similar atomic radii and electronegativity to sulfur may act as electron donors to regulate the electron distribution, thus providing more effective electrochemically active sites. In gratitude to the synergistic effect of microstructure optimization and electronic structure regulation induced by the doing of P, the P-NiS/CoS/ZnS nanoarrays provide a superior capacity of 2716 F g at 1 A/g, while the assembled P-NiS/CoS/ZnS//AC asymmetric supercapacitor exhibits a high energy density of 48.2 Wh kg at a power density of 800 W kg with the capacity retention of 89 % after 9000 cycles. This work reveals a possible method for developing high-performance transition metal sulfide-based battery-like electrode materials for supercapacitors through microstructure optimization and electronic structure regulation.

A key factor for boosting oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the design of heterostructures with steerable defects and interfaces, which can optimize the surface electronic structures and achieve efficient water splitting to produce hydrogen fuel. Herein, we propose a novel one-step hydrothermal approach to fabricate hierarchical NiS nanowires with an S-doped FeMoO nanosheet heterostructure array on Ni-Fe foam (NFF) as a self-standing electrode for synergistically boosted OER. The metalloid NiS nanowires with good conductivity support the FeMoO nanosheets and act as high-speed paths for the charge transfer.

The rational structure design and controllable surface modification of electrode materials plays a decisive role in constructing high performance energy storage and conversion devices. Herein, the P-doped cobalt carbonate hydroxide@NiMoO (P-CoCH@NiMoO) nanowires@nanosheets double-shell hierarchical structure is successfully fabricated on nickel foam. The unique nanowire@nanosheet structure with gradient porous distribution and hydrophilic nature can facilitate both the charge and electron transfer based on the synergetic effects with conductive NiMoO array.

Constructing multicomponent electrode materials with a rational structure is an effective route to develop high-performance supercapacitors. We herein report a novel nickel-foam-supported hierarchical CoO@Ni(OH) nanowire-nanosheet core-shell heterostructure array synthesized by a facile hydrothermal-electrodeposition strategy. The core CoO nanowire arrays with good electrical conductivity and shell Ni(OH) nanosheets with thickness of ∼ 2 nm synergistically contributes to increased active sites, fast mass transfer, and improved structural stability.

The development of flexible energy storage devices for portable and wearable electronics has aroused increasing interest. In this work, three-dimensional hierarchical NiCoO@NiMn-LDH nanowire/nanosheet arrays have been successfully fabricated on carbon cloth through a facile hydrothermal and calcination synthetic method. Benefiting from the sophisticated hybrid nanoarchitectures with desirable structure and components, the optimized NiCoO@NiMn-LDH hybrid electrode is found to deliver a remarkable specific capacity of 278 mA h g at 2 mA cm and a good rate capability of 89.
