Sulfur dioxide (SO) and its derivatives (HSO and SO) are widely used in food-processing. Whereas excessive consumption of sulfur dioxide and its derivatives (>0.70 mg·kgday) severely endangers human health. In this work, we rationally constructed a practical dual-mode probe (dicyanomethylene)-1-methyl-1,4-dihydroquinolin-2-yl)vinyl)-1-methylquinolinium (QMN), which underwent a specific 1, 4-Michael addition with sulfite to afford a noticeable color change from pale yellow to red along with a high-contrast fluorescence turn-on response at 598 nm. QMN has the advantages of rapid response, high signal-to-noise ratio, excellent selectivity, good water-solubility, large Stokes shift and low detection limit (LOD = 31.9 nM). QMN has been successfully used to on-site visually determine sulfite in a diversity of foods with satisfactory recoveries (91.33-111.33 %) and high accuracy (93.74-98.71 %). Furthermore, a portable smartphone-based fluorescence sensing platform was fabricated for on-site determination of sulfite in food with good performance.

Wearable bioelectronics have transformed modern biomedical applications by enabling seamless integration with biological tissues, providing continuous, comprehensive, and personalized healthcare. Skin cancer, particularly melanoma, poses a significant clinical challenge due to its high metastatic potential and associated mortality. Traditional diagnostic approaches face limitations in accuracy, accessibility, and reproducibility, while existing treatments are often constrained by systemic toxicity and therapeutic resistance.

Despite the promise of electrochemical biosensors in amplified nucleic acid diagnostics, existing high-sensitivity platforms often rely on a multilayer surface assembly and cascade amplification confined to the electrode interface. These stepwise strategies suffer from inefficient enzyme activity, poor mass transport, and inconsistent probe orientation, which compromise the amplification efficiency, reproducibility, and practical applicability. To address these limitations, we report a programmable dual-phase electrochemical biosensing system that decouples amplification from signal transduction.

Simultaneous sensing and quantification of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) are crucial for protecting the environment and maintaining long-term ecological sustainability. This study focuses on the bio-based synthesis of BiS-ZnO nanocomposites (BiS-ZnO(bio)) using bio-extract for dual-analyte selective and simultaneous electrochemical monitoring of phenylbutazone (PBZ) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) in the environmental matrices. BiS-ZnO(bio) exhibited ZnO(bio) nanostructures embedded on BiS(bio) nanorods with an average rod length of 1409.

Pax-5a gene, as a nucleic acid biomarker closely associated with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), holds significant potential for early disease diagnosis. In this study, we developed a highly accurate and efficient "on-super on-off" photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor based on a dual-photoelectrode heterojunction system integrated with a multisphere cascade DNA amplification strategy. The designed heterojunction dual-photoelectrode platform, comprising a InO/CdS photoanode (on state) and an in situ-formed MIL-68(In)/InO (MIO) photocathode, effectively extends the electron-hole transport pathway, enhances photogenerated charge separation, and produces high-amplitude signal output (super on state), thereby providing a robust baseline for signal transduction.

Purpose: Primary ventral hernia repair is a common elective procedure; however, mesh placement practices vary widely, and there is limited evidence to guide optimal placement. This international study examined surgeons' preferences and considerations regarding mesh placement in elective primary ventral hernia repair.
Methods: We conducted an international cross-sectional survey targeting surgeons experienced in primary ventral hernia repair.
