We have recently proposed experimental design guidelines and areas of study for preclinical rodent models of gender-affirming hormone therapy in neuroscience. These guidelines also apply to any field subject to the influences of gonadal steroid hormones, including metabolism and growth, cancer, and physiology. This perspective briefly describes our suggestions for these fields. Studying the effects of exogenous steroid hormones will have translational benefits for the community. We also discuss the need for equitable practices for cisgender scientists who wish to implement these guidelines and engage with the community. It is necessary that community-informed practices are implemented in preclinical research to maximize the benefit to transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender diverse (TNG) healthcare, which is currently in jeopardy in the United States, Europe, and across the globe.

Study Objectives: This study compares the demographic characteristics and experiences of three different groups of adolescent and young adults (AYAs) seeking non-sedated intrauterine device (IUD) insertion in the outpatient setting: (1) cisgender individuals, (2) transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals receiving gender-affirming testosterone therapy, and (3) TGD individuals not receiving gender-affirming testosterone therapy.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included AYAs age 13 to 21 years seeking IUD insertion. Data were obtained from the electronic health record via a pre-existing, multi-institutional shared quality improvement (QI) collaborative.

This cross-sectional study investigated self-reassurance as a protective factor in mitigating depression related to internalized gender stigma and enhancing overall well-being among transgender and nonbinary (TNB) individuals during the first step of the gender-affirmation process. The study included 101 TNB individuals (mean age = 26.42, standard deviation = 8.

Background: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) patients face multifactorial barriers to accessing medically-necessary interventions, including gender-affirming chest surgery (GACS). Surgeons may exacerbate this inequity by imposing preoperative body mass index (BMI) requirements on their patients. Recent studies present conflicting evidence regarding the association between BMI and postoperative complications following GACS; however, no studies have assessed these outcomes in cases of extremely high BMI (>40 kg/m).

Objective: Transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive individuals experience disproportionately high rates of mental health symptomatology and face unique barriers to accessing care (eg, concerns about experiencing non-affirming care). This project aimed to address these demonstrated barriers by integrating gender-affirming psychiatric care within primary care.
Methods: We established an embedded gender-affirming psychiatric care clinic within a large, urban, academic family medicine practice.

In Re Devin [2025] the Family Court of Australia considered a case of an 11-year old biologically male child whose mother argued was gender dysphoric and should be prescribed puberty blockers. Strum J found that despite the child attending for six years, the gender clinic failed to make a diagnosis of gender dysphoria until court proceedings had commenced. He also raised concerns about the Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines of the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne which endorsed a gender-affirming model of care.
