The Atlantic puffin is a medium-sized seabird with black and white plumage and orange feet. It is distributed mainly along the northern Atlantic Ocean, and due, among other reasons, to human activities, it is in a threatened situation and classified as a vulnerable species according to the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In this study, we used a total of 20 carcasses of juvenile Atlantic puffins to perform MRI, as well as anatomical cross-sections. Thus, an adequate description of the head was made, providing valuable information that could be helpful as a diagnostic tool for veterinary clinicians, who increasingly treat these birds in zoos, rehabilitation centers, and even in the wild.

Introduction: Vaccinations have had a transformative impact on public health, reducing the incidence of many infectious diseases and increasing survival. However, there remains uncertainty about the potential of vaccines to trigger autoimmune diseases such as the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). Myositis after vaccination (MAV) is a rare clinical entity, but given immunogenetic associations with other adverse events, we explored genetic risk factors, particularly human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles and GM/KM immunoglobulin allotypes, that may predispose individuals to develop MAV.

Developing species-specific diets for Florida pompano () requires understanding both nutritional needs and ingredient responses in practical formulations. Previous research has successfully reduced animal protein inclusion to ~15% by using solvent-extracted soybean meal (SBM) as the primary protein source. Further cost savings may be achieved by incorporating other low-cost alternatives, such as corn fermented protein (CFP), a new sustainable ingredient produced using Fluid Quip Technologies.

Deforestation in the Atlantic Forest has reached critical levels, threatening multiple levels of biodiversity. In these deforested landscapes, conservation strategies could benefit from preserving agroforestry systems known as Cabruca, a traditional method of cultivating cocoa under a canopy of native trees. In this context, Cariniana legalis (Jequitibá-rosa), an endemic tree species of the Atlantic Forest listed as endangered, was selected to evaluate the role of cocoa agroforests (Cabrucas) and forest remnants in the genetic conservation of this species.

To better understand the relative contributions of sea lice Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus clemensi from farmed and non-farmed sources, infestations with sea lice are described on juvenile chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta and pink salmon O. gorbuscha from the Broughton Archipelago (BA) in coastal British Columbia, Canada, during a period of declining salmon aquaculture presence. A total of 2868 salmon were collected by beach seine from 14 sites between 2016 and 2024 and examined for sea lice infestation by microscope.

Shark skin is covered superficially by the crowns of dermal denticles, tooth-shaped scales, whose bases are embedded into the dermis. Denticles provide sharks with functional benefits, including protection during mating and enhanced drag reduction during high-speed swimming. In a few species, research showed that denticle morphology changes as a shark matures and differs between sexes, especially in regions where males bite females during mating.
