Purpose: To investigate the effect of collagen sponge on early bone healing process of alveolar fossa after tooth extraction in rats.
Methods: A total of 16 healthy female SD rats were selected. Animal models with tooth extraction were established. The right alveolar fossa inserted with collagen sponge was as the experimental group, and the left alveolar fossa was as the control group with treatment. The rats were sacrificed 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after tooth extraction, and the osteogenesis of alveolar fossa was observed. Real-time quantitative PCR (qt-PCR) was used to detect the changes of osteogenesis related gene expression. SPSS 19.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.
Results: After surgery, alveolar cavity healing was significantly better in the experimental group than in the control group. Osterix, Runx2 and Vegf genes were expressed in the experimental group and the control group, and the expression levels of related genes in the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after surgery(P<0.05).
Conclusions: Collagen sponge could promote early alveolar bone healing, possibly related to the expression level of osteogenic genes regulated by collagen sponge.

Chronic wounds, a critical global health challenge, necessitate advanced solutions to address limitations in current care, such as subjective assessments, uncontrolled drug delivery, and poor integration of diagnosis and treatment. This study introduces a "clinic-in-a-dressing" system that combines in situ pH monitoring with dual-responsive (pH/enzyme) drug delivery for chronic wound management. The system integrates hyaluronic acid (HA)-encapsulated vancomycin-loaded zeolitic imidazolate framework (HZV) nanoparticles and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) into a nanofiber-reinforced hydrogel sponge.

Objectives: To compare the clinical and radiographic results of three approaches-involving particulate bone graft, recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2)+absorbable collagen sponge (ACS), and no graft material-for lateral maxillary sinus augmentation with simultaneous dental implant placement.
Materials And Methods: From January 2015 to June 2021, a retrospective analysis was performed on 63 patients (a total of 122 implants) who underwent lateral maxillary sinus augmentation with simultaneous implant placement at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dong-A University Hospital. The patients were classified into three groups: no bone graft (n=46), particulate bone graft (n=44), and rhBMP-2+ACS graft material (n=32) groups.

Aim: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of collagen sponges (CSs) on wound healing following palatal graft harvesting and compare their efficacy with gelatine sponges (GSs).
Materials And Methods: Thirty-two participants who had undergone free gingival grafts or de-epithelialised gingival grafts were randomised into the CS group or the GS group. Wound healing rate was calculated as the percentage of the healed wound area divided by the initial wound area.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a critical role in intercellular communication and hold great promise as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic agents. Due to the limited availability of patient samples, in vitro cell culture models have become indispensable tools for generating EVs under controlled conditions and investigating their biological roles. While conventional 2D cultures are widely used, they lack the complexity of native tissues.

Background: Capsular contracture is a major complication of breast reconstruction with silicone implants, affecting patients' quality of life due to pain and esthetic concerns. Capsular contracture is considered to result from an excessive fibrous foreign body reaction to the implant, but its precise mechanism remains unclear, and no effective preventative approaches have been established. Previously, we reported that transdermal application of 4-hydroxytamoxifen (4-OH TAM), an active metabolite of TAM, inhibited capsule formation in a mouse model.
