Article Abstract

Introduction: Gait impairment is common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but difficult to evaluate in clinical practice. In this proof-of-concept observational study, we compared walking ability recorded by Google Maps Timeline to conventional clinical measures in people with MS.

Methods: We used open-access Google Maps Timeline to record the total number of days with walking activity, walking distance, walking time, and walking speed. Each Google Maps Timeline variable was included in a different stepwise linear regression model including all conventional clinical variables.

Results: We included nine people with MS (age 43.1 ± 6.6 years; females 55.6%; disease duration 12.7 ± 3.1 years; median Expanded Disability Status Scale 3.0 (range 1.0-5.5)). Higher percentage of days with recorded walking was associated with lower Fatigue Severity Scale ( = 0.01), and higher MS Walking Scale ( = 0.04). Longer average daily walking distance was associated with shorter Timed-25 Foot Walking Test ( = 0.02), lower Expanded Disability Status Scale ( = 0.01), and higher Euro-Quality of Life ( = 0.04). Longer average daily walking time was associated with shorter Timed-25 Foot Walking Test ( = 0.03). Higher walking speed was associated with lower Fatigue Severity Scale ( = 0.04).

Conclusion: Google Maps Timeline parameters provide actual estimates of daily walking activities in MS.

This study aimed to compare different address geocoding services and their applicability to epidemiological surveillance using dengue as an example. We applied a cross-sectional, descriptive study based on case notifications in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) for the Brazilian capital in 2014 that includes complete postal code (CEP) information identified in the National Address Database for Statistical Purposes (CNEFE), which is considered the 'gold standard' for accuracy analysis. For records without CEP, georeferencing was performed through linkage of the original database with four geocoding tools: Google Maps, CNEFE, OpenStreetMap (OSM) and ArcGIS.

Dual-energy computed tomography has become a pivotal tool in abdominal imaging, particularly for pancreatic pathologies such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, trauma assessment, and acute pancreatitis. Its ability to provide enhanced contrast resolution, reduce artifacts, and optimize radiation dose makes it invaluable in both acute and non-acute clinical settings. This narrative review summarizes the technological advancements and clinical applications of dual-energy computed tomography in pancreatic imaging.

This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of collective memories of urban spaces, examining them from the perspective of mental maps. It is observed that urban memory reflects the socio-cultural diversity and inherent social inequalities of contemporary metropolises. Memory and cultural heritage play a significant role in urban dynamics.

Integrating Google Maps and Smooth Street View Videos for Route Planning.

This research addresses the long-standing dependence on printed maps for navigation and highlights the limitations of existing digital services like Google Street View and Google Street View Player in providing comprehensive solutions for route analysis and understanding. The absence of a systematic approach to route analysis, issues related to insufficient street view images, and the lack of proper image mapping for desired roads remain unaddressed by current applications, which are predominantly client-based. In response, we propose an innovative automatic system designed to generate videos depicting road routes between two geographic locations.

Purpose: Hibernating myocardium is a viable but dysfunctional myocardium state caused by chronic ischemia, with potential for recovery postrevascularization. This study evaluates the feasibility of transfer learning for predicting hibernating myocardium from rest myocardial perfusion images.

Methods: Patients who underwent myocardial viability assessment from January 2017 to September 2022 were split into training (70%) and validation (30%) sets, while those from October 2022 to January 2023 formed the testing set.
