Article Abstract

The involvement of serotonin (5-HT) and/or noradrenaline in acute pruriceptive processing in the central nervous system (CNS) has been reported using antidepressants, such as milnacipran, a serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, and mirtazapine, a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant; however, the roles of 5-HT receptor family in acute pruriceptive processing have not been fully elucidated in the CNS. In the present study, scratching behavior induced by chloroquine (CQ) was ameliorated by milnacipran or mirtazapine, and these effects were reversed by SB207266, a 5-HT antagonist, or SB258585, a 5-HT antagonist, but not by SB258585, a 5-HT antagonist. Moreover, CQ-induced scratches were mitigated by intrathecal injection of 5-HT agonists, such as BIMU8 and ML10302, and the 5-HT agonist, WAY208466. Conversely, histamine-induced scratches were not affected by the 5-HT agonists or a 5-HT agonist. Similarly, the amelioration of histamine-induced scratches by these antidepressants was not reversed by the 5-HT, 5-HT, or 5-HT receptor antagonist. Therefore, 5-HT is involved in the amelioration of CQ-induced scratches by milnacipran and mirtazapine, and 5-HT, 5-HT, and 5-HT receptors play differential roles in acute pruriceptive processing after administration of CQ or histamine.

This study aimed to evaluate the antidepressant potential of Nitazoxanide (NTZ), an antiprotozoal drug with known anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, in a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced mice model of depression. NTZ was administered at doses of 75, 150, and 300 mg/kg, and its effects were assessed through a series of behavioral tests, including the forced swim test, tail suspension test, actophotometer test, and social interaction test. NTZ treatment at 150 and 300 mg/kg significantly improved behavioral and biochemical outcomes, relieving depressive-like symptoms and restoring neurochemical balance.

Objective: The serotonin system has long been implicated in autism spectrum disorder. A previous study reported lower whole blood serotonin (WB5-HT) concentrations in the mothers of children with more severe autism. This study attempted to replicate this finding in an independent cohort.

Purpose: The rapid onset of anxiolytic drugs without cognitive or motor impairments remains an unmet need. This study evaluated the acute anxiolytic effects of Salvia heldreichiana essential oil in rats, measuring anxiety-related behaviors, hippocampal levels of serotonin, noradrenaline, gamma-aminobutyric acid GABA, and serum cortisol.

Method: Forty-eight male Wistar albino rats were divided into two experiments.

This study explored the effects of Jiuwei Zhenxin (JWZX) granules on serum triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1) levels and their role in regulating depression and anxiety in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). A total of 100 CHD patients were enrolled from January 2020 to January 2023: 50 received JWZX granules and 50 underwent conventional treatment. Clinical data and psychological scores were collected.

Stainless-steel substrates have grown in importance in the development of planar sorptive phases. However, the reduced wettability of polished sheets makes difficult their functionalization. This limitation can be solved by using amorphous silica gel microparticles as superficial guides.
