The measurement of respiratory volume based on upper body movements by means of a smart shirt is increasingly requested in medical applications. This research used upper body surface motions obtained by a motion capture system, and two regression methods to determine the optimal selection and placement of sensors on a smart shirt to recover respiratory parameters from benchmark spirometry values. The results of the two regression methods (Ridge regression and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso)) were compared. This work shows that the Lasso method offers advantages compared to the Ridge regression, as it provides sparse solutions and is more robust to outliers. However, both methods can be used in this application since they lead to a similar sensor subset with lower computational demand (from exponential effort for full exhaustive search down to the order of ()). A smart shirt for respiratory volume estimation could replace spirometry in some cases and would allow for a more convenient measurement of respiratory parameters in home care or hospital settings.

This study introduces a machine learning framework to predict bioactivity (pIC₅₀) and identify key molecular properties and structural features for targeting Trypanothione reductase (TR), Protein kinase C theta (PKC-θ), and Cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) using data from the ChEMBL database. Molecular fingerprints, generated via PaDEL-Descriptor and RDKit, encoded structural features as binary vectors.

Background: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a major immune-related disorder that leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO), including recurrent miscarriage, placental abruption, preterm birth, and fetal growth restriction. Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs), particularly anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL), anti-β2-glycoprotein I antibodies (aβ2GP1), and lupus anticoagulant (LA), are considered key biomarkers for APS and are closely associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. This is a prospective observational cohort study to use machine learning model to predict adverse pregnancy outcomes in APS patients using early pregnancy aPL levels and clinical features.

Understanding the intricate relationship between land use/land cover (LULC) transformations and land surface temperature (LST) is critical for sustainable urban planning. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of LULC and LST across Delhi, India, using thermal data from Landsat 7 (2001), Landsat 5 (2011) and Landsat 8 (2021) resampled to 30-m spatial resolution, during the peak summer month of May. The study aims to target three significant aspects: (i) to analyse and present LULC-LST dynamics across Delhi, (ii) to evaluate the implications of LST effects at the district level and (iii) to predict seasonal LST trends in 2041 for North Delhi district using the seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) time series model.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a diagnostic model for bipolar disorder (BD) using Genetic Algorithm-Optimized Kernel Partial Least Squares (GA-KPLS) and to identify key genes associated with the disorder.
Methods: Gene expression data from 448 BD patients were analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The GA-KPLS model was constructed and compared with six traditional models: Random Forest, LASSO, Ridge Regression, Support Vector Machine, Neural Network, and Logistic Regression.

Background: Obesity is a chronic condition linked to health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and increased cancer risk. High body mass index (BMI) is associated with cancers such as breast and colorectal cancer due to hormone imbalances and inflammation from excess fat, whereas a low BMI can raise cancer risk by weakening the immune system. Maintaining a normal BMI improves cancer treatment outcomes, but in some cases, higher BMI might offer protective effects-a phenomenon known as the "obesity paradox".
