Low-temperature vacuum drying (LTVD) has shown great potential for drying vegetables. It could avoid excessive degradations of active compounds with potential therapeutic agents. In this study, the effect on several relevant bioactive compounds, anti-inflammatory activity, and anti-proliferative activity of broccoli ( var. italica) were evaluated. Effects of other drying methods, including vacuum drying (VD), convective drying (CD), infrared drying (IRD), and freeze drying (FD), were also comparatively evaluated. The results of all dried samples showed high polyunsaturated fatty acid contents (of up to 71.3%) and essential amino acid contents (of up to 8.63%). The LTVD method stands out above the other drying methods, since it obtained the highest content of total phenols, chlorogenic acid, and ferulic acid. Both the LTVD and CD samples demonstrated high anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activities. These CD and LTVD samples were also the most active against the breast carcinoma MDA-MB-23 cell line. Due to the good retention of bioactive compounds via LTVD, the obtained dried broccoli here can be used in a near time as an ingredient for the development of novel natural products with anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects.

Turmeric () is primarily traded in dried form; preserving its bioactive compounds and quality through optimal drying methods is critical. This study evaluated the effects of various drying techniques-sun drying (SD), convection oven drying (COD), vacuum oven drying (VOD), infrared drying (IRD), microwave drying (MD), and freeze drying (FD)-on turmeric rhizomes slices. Key parameters analyzed included moisture loss, color, total phenolic content (TPC), curcumin content, antioxidant capacity and essential oil (EO) content and composition.

Introduction: Microorganisms can have major impacts on the success of NASA's missions, including the integrity of materials, the protection of extraterrestrial environments, the reliability of scientific results, and maintenance of crew health. Robust cleaning and sterilization protocols for spacecraft and associated environments are currently in place in NASA facilities, but microbial contamination should be further controlled and its impact on NASA's missions and science must be minimized. Nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) was synthesized by a one-pot liquid-phase chemical method in the presence of FeSO as the iron source and NaBH as the reducing agent. The synthesized nZVI was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Its ability to passivate Pb, Cd, and AsO in soils was evaluated by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy, and the passivation mechanism was explored based on adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics simulations.

This study aimed to explore the impact of different harvest maturity stages (white, semi-ripe, and fully ripe) and various drying methods [freeze drying (FD), freeze drying followed by heat pump drying, and FD followed by far-infrared drying (FD-FID)] on the quality and aroma profile of gray jujube powder. The results demonstrated that both the harvest maturity stage and drying methods significantly ( < 0.05) influenced the physical properties, chemical composition, and aroma profile of gray jujube powder.

A simple, sensitive, and specific liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was successfully developed and validated to determine navitoclax and doxorubicin in rat plasma. Ketoconazole and daunorubicin were employed as internal standards to ensure accurate quantification and method consistency. The sample preparation involved a straightforward protein precipitation technique, which facilitated efficient extraction of the analytes from the plasma matrix.
