The biological role of interleukin 17 (IL-17) has been explored during recent decades and identified as a pivotal player in coordinating innate and adaptive immune responses. Notably, IL-17 functions as a double-edged sword with both destructive and protective immunological roles. While substantial progress has implicated unrestrained IL-17 in a variety of infectious diseases or autoimmune conditions, IL-17 plays an important role in protecting the host against pathogens and maintaining physiological homeostasis. In this review, we describe canonical IL-17 signaling mechanisms promoting neutrophils recruitment, antimicrobial peptide production, and maintaining the epithelium barrier integrity, as well as some noncanonical mechanisms involving IL-17 that elicit protective immunity.

Communication between group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3) and other immune cells, as well as intestinal epithelial cells, is pivotal in regulating intestinal inflammation. This study, for the first time, underscores the importance of crosstalk between intestinal endothelial cells (ECs) and ILC3. Our single-cell transcriptome analysis combined with protein expression detection revealed that ECs significantly increased the population of interleukin (IL)-22 ILC3 through interactions mediated by endothelin-1 (ET-1) and its receptor endothelin A receptor (EDNRA).

Background: The long-acting monoclonal antibody nirsevimab and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines became available for prevention of severe RSV-associated disease in 2023. While clinical trials showed good efficacy and safety, their restrictive inclusion criteria, small sample sizes and short follow-up limit generalisability. We aimed to summarise real-world evidence on the effectiveness and safety of nirsevimab, RSV maternal vaccine and RSV vaccines for older adults.

Background: We evaluated the effectiveness of the influenza vaccine programme against infection among emergency hospital admissions with respiratory conditions in Northern Ireland during the 2023/2024 influenza season.
Methods: Using a test-negative design, we compared the odds of vaccination between patients who tested positive (cases) and negative (controls) for laboratory-confirmed influenza, adjusting for confounders. VE was stratified by age group, sex and time since vaccination.

Mesentery is a crucial part of an animal's digestive system since it holds the intestine in place, while also contains the specialized lymph nodes and immune cells that help protect the intestines from infections and support the body's immune response in the abdominal cavity. Analyzing mesenteric lymph can help better understand the transport mechanisms and potential implications for various conditions, such as lymphatic disorders or underlying infections. The first step towards this is the precise collection of the mesenteric lymph.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disorder in which autoantibodies cause the immune system to attack and destroy pancreatic β-cells, leading to insufficient insulin production and impaired blood glucose control. T follicular helper (Tfh) cells are recognized as a group of CD4 T cells that help B cells to produce high-affinity antibodies. Our previous research found that oxymatrine (OMT) exhibits excellent immunomodulatory properties on Tfh cells in autoimmune diseases.
