This study aimed to develop Mahonia bealei alkaloid (MA)-loaded nanoparticles (NPs) targeting the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for the treatment of depression. The MA@NPs were prepared via self-assembly using transferrin-modified chitosan-N, O-carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCMS-CS-Tf) as the carrier. Formulation optimization yielded uniform MA@NPs (∼192 nm, +29 mV) with a drug loading of ∼16 % and encapsulation efficiency of ∼80 %.

Shaker K channel proteins are responsible for potassium (K) uptake and transport, playing a critical role in plant growth, development, and adaptation to K deficiency. Cassava, a key tropical root crop, is known for its characteristic of resilience to nutrient-poor soil and drought stress. However, the Shaker K channel gene family in cassava has not yet been characterized.

Introduction: Ginseng, known as the "king of herbs," has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine due to its beneficial properties, including anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects. Ginsenosides, the active compounds in ginseng, have shown promise in treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study investigates the therapeutic potential of Ginsenoside Ro and its underlying mechanisms in AD treatment.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is an age-related orthopedic degenerative disease characterized by recurrent episodes of lower back pain, and death of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) has been identified as a key factor in the pathophysiological process of IVDD episodes. Recent studies have shown that " PANapoptosis ", a newly characterized form of cell death, has emerged as an important factor contributing to the development of several diseases. However, studies on the specific mechanisms of its role in the development of IVDD are lacking.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are significant types of liver cancer that impact the immune response due to the role of T regulatory (Treg) cells in suppressing antitumor immunity.
  • - A study was conducted on healthy individuals, CCA patients, and HCC patients to assess changes in natural killer (NK) cells and T cell subsets before and after surgical tumor removal, using various blood assays.
  • - Findings revealed that both types of cancer patients exhibited alterations in Treg cell populations before surgery, with an increase in certain Treg cells after tumor resection, indicating potential mechanisms of immune modulation following surgery.
