Microbial degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons is a crucial process for the clean-up of oil-contaminated environments. spp. are well-known polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) degraders that possess PAH-degradation marker genes including , , and . However, it remains unknown if the expression of these genes can serve as an indicator for active PAH degradation. Here, we determined transcript-to-gene (TtG) ratios with (reverse transcription) qPCR in cultures of strain PS-1 grown with naphthalene, phenanthrene, a mixture of these PAHs, or alternate substrates (i.e., no PAHs). Mean TtG ratios of 1.99 × 10, 1.80 × 10, and 3.20 × 10 for , , and , respectively, were measured in the presence or absence of PAHs. The TtG values suggested that marker-gene expression is independent of PAH degradation. Measurement of TtG ratios in Arctic seawater microcosms amended with water-accommodated crude oil fractions, and incubated under temperature conditions (i.e., 1.5°C), only detected spp. genes and transcripts (mean TtG ratio of 4.15 × 10). The other marker genes- and were not detected, suggesting that not all spp. carry these genes and a broader yet-to-be-identified repertoire of PAH-degradation genes exists. The results indicate that the expression of PAH marker genes may not correlate with PAH-degradation activity, and transcription data should be interpreted cautiously.

Determining the composition, formation mechanisms and stability of the Hadean continental crust is essential for understanding the early geological history of Earth. Detrital zircons, largely from Jack Hills of Western Australia, provide the dominant direct records for the nature of continental crust during the Hadean eon and its formation processes. Although isotope and trace element compositions of these zircons are extensively determined, the major and trace element compositions of their host rocks and corresponding parental magmas remain largely debated, making the nature and evolution of the early Earth's crust ambiguous.

Acute myocarditis encompasses a spectrum of diseases characterized by ongoing inflammation and cardiomyocyte injury, lacking specific diagnostic biomarkers and effective therapies. Transfer RNA (tRNA)‑derived small RNAs (tsRNAs), formed by specific cleavage of tRNAs in response to certain stimuli, participate in diverse diseases; however, their involvement in myocarditis remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of a novel tsRNA, 5'tRNA‑derived stress‑induced RNA (tiRNA)‑Gln‑TTG‑001, in myocarditis.

Objective: To characterize how neighborhood socioeconomic deprivation affects tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA normalization, a marker of effective gluten elimination.
Study Design: We conducted a single-center, retrospective cohort study of 207 children ≤18 years old with serology- or biopsy-based celiac disease diagnosed between 2013 and 2023. The primary exposure was the neighborhood deprivation index, a continuous measure (0-1) derived from the 2018 5-year American Community Survey.

Introduction: Celiac disease (CD) also called gluten-sensitive enteropathy is a noninfectious and an autoimmune cause of malabsorption. It can be difficult to diagnose because of wide range of gastrointestinal and extraintestinal symptoms.
Case Presentation: Here, we present 5 cases of CD out of total 160 patients assessed for malabsorption at a tertiary care facility in western Maharashtra between 2022 and 2023.

Aim: The adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD) in celiac disease (CD) is influenced by socioeconomic factors and language barriers, which are especially relevant to minority populations. The study aimed to compare CD outcomes in children of Eritrean asylum seekers living in Israel to those of native Israeli children.
Methods: This retrospective case-control study included demographic, clinical, laboratory, endoscopic, and histologic data of all Eritrean children diagnosed with CD during 2015-2023.
