Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) risk models routinely adjust for endoscopic screening because of a) possible confounding with other risk factors and b) possible alteration of natural history of the disease due to adenoma detection and removal.

Methods: In this study, we defined a subject as screen-covered (SC) if a colonoscopy was performed in the past 10 years, and not screen-covered (NSC) otherwise. We created CRC risk models separately for SC and NSC subjects (HRSC, HRNSC) and then obtained a screening-coverage adjusted HR estimate (HRfull) based on a weighted average of ln(HRSC) and ln(HRNSC) with weight equal to the proportion of SC person-time in the NHS population.

is a commensal bacterium that colonizes the gut of humans and animals and is a major opportunistic pathogen, known for causing multidrug-resistant healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Its ability to thrive in diverse environments and disseminate antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) across ecological niches highlights the importance of understanding its ecological, evolutionary, and epidemiological dynamics. The CRISPR2 locus has been used as a valuable marker for assessing clonality and phylogenetic relationships in .

A key feature of extant conifer forests is the high percentage of seeds that germinate and establish on dead wood; in some forests, this can exceed 90%. This deadwood can act as an ideal nursery for young tree species, leading to this type of seedbed being termed 'nurse logs'. It is unclear how common this ecological strategy has been throughout the evolutionary history of conifers.

Background: The effects of dietary niacin on the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) remain unclear.

Methods: CKD patients with estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRs) 20-59 mL/min/1.73 m or urinary albumin/creatinine ratio ≥30 mg/g were identified in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2003 to 2018.

Unlabelled: Marinisomatota (formerly recognized as Marinimicrobia, Marine Group A, and SAR406) are ubiquitous and abundant in marine environments, traditionally characterized as heterotrophic microorganisms. However, certain members of Marinisomatota have demonstrated the capacity to harness light for carbon dioxide fixation and the synthesis of organic compounds, thriving in the translucent zone or transitioning between the translucent and aphotic layers. The metabolic strategies driving the shift in trophic behaviors, and the factors influencing these transitions, remain largely unexplored.
