Coordination polymers (CPs) and their subset, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), can have porous structures and hybrid physicochemical properties that are useful for diverse applications. Although crystalline CPs and MOFs have received the most attention to date, their amorphous states are of growing interest as they can be directly synthesized under mild conditions. Directly synthesized amorphous CPs (aCPs) can be constructed from a wider range of metals and ligands than their crystalline and crystal-derived counterparts and demonstrate numerous unique material properties, such as higher mechanical robustness, increased stability and greater processability. This Review examines methods for the direct synthesis of aCPs and amorphous MOFs, as well as their properties and characterization routes, and offers a perspective on the opportunities for the widespread adoption of directly synthesized aCPs.

Uniform dispersion of carbon nanotubes in a polymer matrix is a prerequisite for high-performance nanotube-based composites. Here, we report an in situ polymerization route to synthesize a range of phenolic composites with high loading of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs, >40 wt%) and continuously tunable viscoelasticity. SWCNTs can be directly and uniformly dispersed in cresols through noncovalent charge-transfer interactions without the need for surfactants, and further concentrated before in situ polymerization of the solvent molecules, yielding phenolic composites in the forms of conductive pastes, highly stretchy doughs, and hardened solids with high nanotube loading and much enhanced electrical conductivity (up to 2.

The maintenance of extracellular fluid (ECF) osmolality and sodium concentration ([Na]) near optimal "set point" values sustains physiological functions and prevents pathological states such as hypo- and hypernatremia. The peptide hormones vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) and oxytocin (a natriuretic hormone in rats) play key roles in this process. These hormones are synthesized by hypothalamic magnocellular neurosecretory cells (MNCs) that project to the neurohypophysis and are released into the systemic circulation in response to rises in ECF osmolality or [Na].

The construction of strong metal-support interactions (SMSI) is an effective strategy to enhance and control heterogeneous catalysts. However, conventional methods require pre-synthesized metal-loaded catalysts, followed by SMSI formation via high-temperature treatment under oxidative/reductive atmospheres, adsorbate-mediated treatment, and photo-treatment, adding complexity to catalyst synthesis and hindering continuous interfacial tuning. In this work, a "photobreeding" method is employed to treat ZnCdS, leveraging the UV-induced photochromic reaction of ZnS to generate metallic Zn at room temperature, while CdS remains inert.

Plant seeds have evolved diverse dormancy types and regulatory mechanisms to adapt to environmental conditions and seasonal changes. As a commonly used rootstock for cultivated pears, faces challenges in seedling production and large-scale cultivation due to limited understanding of seed dormancy mechanisms. In this study, we report that seeds exhibit non-deep physiological dormancy, with seed coats playing a pivotal regulatory role.

The effect of sonocatalysis on anticancer treatment is always restricted by rapid recombination of charge and low utilization of the ultrasonic cavitation effect. Herein, cobalt-doped prussian blue (PB) nanocubes were synthesized, and then they were etched by acidic solution to obtain amorphous Co-FePB@1h with abundant defects including: Fe/Co defects, Fe-(CN) vacancies, and dangling bonds. Both doping and defect engineering contribute to decreasing the band gap and promoting charge separation.
