Article Abstract

() is the primary Basidiomycota species causing white rot in European vineyards affected by the Esca complex of diseases (ECD). In the last few years, an increasing number of studies have highlighted the importance of reconsidering the role of in ECD etiology, justifying an increase in research interest related to 's biomolecular pathogenetic mechanisms. In the context of the current re-evaluation of the binary distinction (brown vs. white rot) between biomolecular decay pathways induced by Basidiomycota species, our research aims to investigate the potential for non-enzymatic mechanisms adopted by , which is typically described as a white rot fungus. Our results demonstrate how, in liquid culture reproducing nutrient restriction conditions often found in wood, can produce low molecular weight compounds, the hallmark of the non-enzymatic "chelator-mediated Fenton" (CMF) reaction, originally described for brown rot fungi. CMF reactions can redox cycle with ferric iron, generating hydrogen peroxide and ferrous iron, necessary reactants leading to hydroxyl radical (OH) production. These observations led to the conclusion that a non-enzymatic radical-generating CMF-like mechanism may be utilized by , potentially together with an enzymatic pool, to contribute to degrading wood constituents; moreover, indicating significant variability between strains.

A key feature of extant conifer forests is the high percentage of seeds that germinate and establish on dead wood; in some forests, this can exceed 90%. This deadwood can act as an ideal nursery for young tree species, leading to this type of seedbed being termed 'nurse logs'. It is unclear how common this ecological strategy has been throughout the evolutionary history of conifers.

Molecular approaches for enhancing fermented bamboo-derived feed additives: A sustainable nutritional innovation for poultry.

The function of fermented and non fermented bamboo-derived feed additives in poultry nutrition is critically assessed in this review, with emphasis on the effects on growth performance, immunity, intestinal health, egg and meat quality. Fermented bamboo feeds have become a promising nutritional innovation in poultry production. The use of bamboo leaves and tender shoots in chicken feed is limited due to the presence of lignin and cellulose.

Nrg1 is a C2H2 zinc finger transcription factor that functions in various cellular processes related to environmental responses and cell wall synthesis in yeast. The present study investigated the function of Nrg1 in filamentous development in the white-rot fungus Pleurotus ostreatus for the first time. The Δnrg1 strains exhibited a higher frequency and larger angles of hyphal branching than the wild-type strain, suggesting nrg1 is essential to hyphal branching regulation.
