Altered mental status is a challenging chief complaint with a wide differential diagnosis. Altered mentation in the setting of new-onset seizures requires consideration of myriad causes, not limited to electrolyte derangements, toxin withdrawals, central nervous system (CNS) infections, hypoxic brain injury, and inflammatory diseases. We report a 50-year-old man with a history of hypertension and asthma who presented to the emergency department (ED) for new-onset seizures with a prodrome of unusual behavior for several days, and in the ED experienced status epilepticus requiring intubation and deep sedation.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare form of necrotising vasculitis characterised by eosinophilic infiltration and systemic involvement, most commonly affecting the lungs, skin, and peripheral nerves. Gastrointestinal (GI) manifestations are common in patients with EGPA, although histopathological confirmation of GI involvement is infrequent. Acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency, but its presentation as an initial manifestation of EGPA is exceptionally uncommon.

Background: COVID-19 infection and vaccination have unclear impacts on type-2 inflammatory diseases. Although viral infections can drive immune dysregulation, the extent to which COVID-19 infection and vaccination affect type-2 inflammatory diseases in various organ systems remains underexplored.

Objective: We aimed to assess the risk of new-onset type-2 inflammatory diseases after COVID-19 infection and vaccination.

Rationale: Prolonged exposure to particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter <2.5 µm (PM) may aggravate asthma, impair lung development and increase airway inflammation. This study investigated the impact of long-term PM exposure on respiratory health, lung function growth and fractional exhaled nitric oxide ( ) in a large longitudinal cohort of school children.
